BLACKPOOL LOSE POINT AFTER GETTING LEAD
A Blackpool defence which withstood the tornado of a forward line, and a Blackpool front line which took its few chances in the first half - and missed one or two in the second - won a point out of this match.

WHEN I left Blackpool shortly after noon today people were hunting all over the town for motorcoaches to Burnden Park. For nearly all them it was a vain quest. Scarcely a coach was left down the length of the coast from Lytham to Fleetwood.

All the way to Bolton there were dozens on the road. The general estimate was that between 5,000 and 6,000 people had come from the Fylde towns.

These reports are superb. The quality of the journalism complete with a bespoke cartoonist. Thank you for posting them - what an archive to draw upon! Who'd have thought we were taking 5-6k away from home in 1948! Rationing was still in place! Keep 'em coming - please.

Take a look all you you little Blackpoolers, we were in Division 1, that’s the premier league these days, and we were for a lot of the 20th century.

So it’s not out of the question that we can get back there and also build a bigger east stand and get this club back on the map as force ti be reckoned with!

Aye but for much of that time the maximum wage was in force. Once that was abolished, Blackpool struggled to maintain its presence in the top flight ( I remember it well - a regular on the Kop from 62 onwards and every season was a struggle, Ron Suart did a magnificent job in retrospect)
