Man City away first game of the season . Got spanked 3-0.

I was really lookingforward to this -we had sold our full allocation and sure over 3000 pool there .

roasting hot day - brilliant atmosphere and then like a balloonbeing burst we were one down .

never played that day , typical big away crowd and a no show from the team.

many off here there

We were there, City fans taking piss out of us for our lack of designer gear! Sat a few cordoned off rows from us. Twátts!

Load of their fans spat at us at the end of the game that day .. thoroughly unpleasant and shame they went up that season at the expense of Gillingham as would have been funny to see them still down there without their Sheikh owner!

Remember it well - if just come out of Victoria Hospital after catching pneumonia at France 98 - BFC were poor - don’t think we had a shot on target - about 20 of us were in a box - in the box next to us was a Blackpool family that supported City FFS ... hot day - plenty of drinking around their pubs .... no trouble whatsoever 🤷‍♂️

We hit the bar though when 0-0.
scary to think it was that long ago.
Remember the Play Off final when City were 3-1 down with just 5 minutes left. Many City fans walked out before Dickov played his magic.

I was there, awful performance from us. Over 30k there and as per, the team of that time crumbled when playing in a decent crowd.

Parked outside a house that had a black man in the garden and he was the size of the Rock and asked me if we won whilst laughing...the ^×#%

Yep..was there...remember the temporary stand as they were rebuilding Maine Road at the time.A distinctly poor Performance by the Pool that day.
Always enjoyed seeing us play at Maine Road( and not too far for me to get to either) but you really had to take note about where you parked as every street round the ground look the same and at night it was even more confusing especially with all the narrow alley ways( like the old Coronation Street set).
They often used to park the visiting coaches at Hough End playing fields where for many years I regularly played Sunday football so I knew the area reasonably well but still felt nervous about locating where I’d parked.

Can’t say I remember there being too many gardens round there😉.....even now😀

Happy Days

I remember it well. Went with my lad who was 8 at the time, and a few mates in a couple of cars. The driver of the other car was so tight that he kept turning his engine off at traffic lights, and when we were in a queue. We got to the grosvenor casino junction in Manchester and his starter motor went. We then parked up near there and walked to Maine Road. After the game we waited around for a while to walk back with the other driver, who unknown to us had left early "to beat the traffic", got his car started, and was back in the pub over an hour before us . I don't see much of him nowadays...I wonder why!

It was the biggest crowd my lad had seen and he was awestruck. Was there not a temporary stand erected at that time as they were building a new stand? I remember having to walk back through Moss side to get back to the car...quite scary at the time.

I fancied going to that game but was playing Saturday afternoons at the time.

First game of the season. Started on the bench and only got put on with 5 minutes to go when 4-0 down. Was fuming.

Butler hit the bar from a header in injury time if memory serves.

I thought it was 1-3, my one and only visit to Maine road.
The ghost hit the bar but that was as good as it got for Blackpool that day.
Went on a club coach as my eldest lad was quite young at the time, remember the driver was following directions to Old Trafford 🤦‍♂️

Listened to the full match commentary in the garden.
It came across loud and clear that Dickov ran the show and was on another level.

great day, I liked the City fans and walked with a few of them at the end of the game. It was the same at Sunderland and Leeds before,,different results but gives you a glimpse of how the mighty can fall. City were a bit of a yo yo team but the 3rd div. ?

I only ever went to Maine Road once to see Guns n Roses on a Sunday. Very annoyed as they came on stage about 3 hours late

City’s first game in the third tier - boys to men against the pool - we’d just got a decent shirt sponsor (telewest).

after the game got stuck at traffic lights and a load of city fans started rocking my car to the tune of ‘blue moon’ with pints of lager sloshing about - 4 of us in my motor had a bit of banter with them - can’t believe it’s that long ago 🥺happy football away days 👍

Ah G ’n, R - supported by faith no more and was it soungarden🥺use your illusion tour - again cant believe so long ago - Axl rose had big bust up with girlfriend and the gig was delayed by a week or so - happy days 😀

Yes faith no more were awesome and sound garden were the new boys on the block. To be honest they were both better than Guns n Roses in my opinion
