25% windfall tax

You're a cynical suspicious lot.

I just watched the Financial Secretary to the Treasury on BBC News.

She said that the Chancellor of Exchequer was just waiting for Ofgem to announce the new home energy cap. This was announced earlier in the week, and so the Chancellor wanted to ease people's concerns about rising bills as soon as possible.

Seems eminently plausible to me!!!

It’s easy being Sunak in it..just keep printing money and give it away..billions in covid payments ..now billions in cost of living payments..🤣..

Rushed through payments to income related beneficiaries.

If you're a pensioner with child tax credit and some form of disablement benefit you'll end up with at least three payments. No cross matching going on.

That's true.
We've 4 sets of OAP's living adjacent to us. None have no mortgages, their adult kids are independant with good jobs, two own properties in Spain, all four have 21 registered cars. From what they say, all 4 households have private pensions - in addition to their state pensions (some will have disability pensions due to none life threatening issues) and two sets also have part time jobs.
This isn't a criticism of anyone, it's just making a point that not all pensioners are struggling, yet they get bunched under the same heading.
It would be fairer, to give more to those who really need it.

Sunak making it rain...

Enough? Who knows?
A decent effort though.
Probably could have been more targeted but I do think they had to do something like this. Two thirds of the economy is down to consumer spending, so it should give things a boost.
Inflation though?? Can’t do right for doing wrong at this juncture probably!

More cash given by Sunak than anticipated.Martin Lewis the financial journalist likes what Rishi has done as well. Now I was wavering but have decided to vote Tory at next GE.
What I´ve read is that Martin Lewis´s take is that Sunak is giving with one hand and taking with the other.

I’m currently in spoons in Cleveleys and it’s packed, if you were a Martian who just landed, you wouldn’t know there’s a cost of living crisis
