5 bookings at half time…….

Yep, tactically poor second half, we were crying out for Bowler / when we needed to run at them we instead played head tennis and long balls for their tall players to hoover up, we didn’t win a header all night barring Madine winning one.
They made changes at half time and we didn’t respond. Beat ourselves tonight 2nd half.

Not sure I can remember us getting the ball out wide second half until Bowler came on. Everything was just hoofed in the air down the middle for the biggest defender in the league to keep heading away 🙄
They changed things at half time and didn’t give the space to play it wide - they took off their number 16 who was shite and looked better for it. We should have responded sooner with changes - hoofing it 25 minutes and then bringing Madine on made no sense, nor bringing bowler on with 10 mins or so left.

Obvious that we had to run at them second half ( particularly the 4 on cards in second half). Why didn’t we do it?

I think we were just a bit out of form, out of energy and out of ideas, particularly second half. We missed Keogh's organisational influence. Disappointing, but it's been a long week or two. Go again Saturday, hopefully with a couple of fresh faces.

I have to say I thought NC got it wrong. Yes we dominated possession in the first half but why did we constantly lob high balls in the box when they have 2 giants at the back. We were never going to win a header all night. That said they got lucky as we switched off from a set piece.

And they got lucky as proven on TV that their player should have been sent off 😡

NC is an amazing manager, and we fortunate to have him, but even he is not immune from tactical errors. With Stoke having 5 yellow cards in the first half, surely the second half was crying out for the likes of Bowler to run at them. One misplaced tackle by the Stoke defenders and they are down to 10. And they must have known that. We failed. Time to move on, but with the lesson learnt.
