5 Years Ago Today

What don't you agree with?

(Liked that by mistake, BTW)

Leaving aside all the many structural improvements and concentrating on the football - under the Rotten Regime and before Belokons' involvement, we spent 24 years yoyoing between levels 3 &4.

Now we're level 3 with recent history and realistic ambition of getting to level 2. Nothing's guaranteed, and no-one has a right to be at any level.
But we're a bloody sight better off than we were.

Oh, and no fans are getting sued.

And we still have a temporary east stand, a training ground complete with portakabins at Squires Gate; a pitch that looks pretty rough, and an owner who communicates with one sided open letters to the fans. A brave new world indeed!
A pitch that looks pretty rough?

Are you having a laugh?

Similarly Squires Gate is a world of difference as well.

Completely new modular buildings and not the wooden huts of yesteryear.

Far too much to list, although others have started I see.

Whilst disappointed with our current league position and general under performing with NC, if you cannot see that we are in a better position now than 5 years ago, then I don't know what more to add.
Same league standing, same temp East Stand, Same training ground, same policy of selling our best payers and replacing them with loans, same failings in the transfer windows

Got some new huts at Squires Gate, An outside bar in the North East corner and pitch looks a bit better

And now look at us

Still in league 1
What do you expect? Challenge for Champions league. We are 7 th biggest club in Div 1 in terms of support which puts us about where we are in terms of football. Enjoy the miracle of Holloway and it’s memory, only those who are Cononised perform 2 miracles. We still have a club which didn’t look likely around 2014. Of course if you have the money to take the club forward then feel free to buy it. You could be the Messiah, or more likely just a naughty boy!

What a ridiculous post

You are saying we can't be critical of our current league position because at least we have a club to support and people can't be critical of the owner unless they are willing to buy the club

It's not the same training ground at all, other than location. The facilities and pitch standards are miles away from what they were.

Send an email to Sadler then.

But yea, so much more promise for the future without the scumstons involvement.

You are always boringly critical, born out of need to be controversial when all you say is tedium.

I actually agree here a little bit.

Things like the East Stand and the Training Ground take time but it feels like they've been stuck in the mud for a while now.

I've no problem with selling our best players for a profit so long as sufficient quality is brought into replace them. Due to poor recruitment that hasn't been the case.

I don't think that's due to a lack of trying, I actually think Sadler underestimated how difficult running this club would be in the long-term.

Despite that, it seems that a lot of the time people refuse to criticise Sadler because he's not Oyston, and I think as a fanbase we have to be better than that. We shouldn't just expect better than Oyston, we should expect FAR better.

Criticism of the owner, based on the last 2 seasons, is completely valid and shouldn't be met with such hostility and CERTAINLY shouldn't be met with responses along the lines of "well at least he's not the Oystons".

I’m not delirious but I am trying to be realistic. The 57 years I have lived and breathed this club, like many others, have been character building. 40% high 40% low and other in a vacuum of blankness. At the moment I am showing my patient side. I bet you are not much different.

Mid table finish in League 1 was an excellent season. for the Oystons.
It was a few places lower afterwards and relegation followed by League 2.
Pre- Belekon how many seasons did we finish top half?
96 and 97 perhaps

"What have the Romans ever done for us?"
"Top Sheeting".
Both are applicable to some of the comments on this thread.
And no, I'm not going to explain them.

How many fans said ‘I’d take league 2 or non league to get rid of the Oystons’

They’re gone. Mistakes have been made and we carry on

Well the day has arrived. 100% agree with all of that. 👋 👋

No we are saying that to state that the club is in a similar state to the Oyston years is pretty ludicrous.

I do like you Phil but you do talk nonsense at times. We now support a normal football team, yes we all can have a moan about signings, formations etc but the key issue is you know everyone is trying to progress upwards and that any ticket money, transfer fees get reinvested into the club.

If you want to see how far we have come listen to the under the cosh podcast recently with Steve Davies and how he describes his time under Jose Riga as complete carnage and we were a laughing stock. We are still probably trying to shake off that tag even to this day.

I would have taken non league to be rid of the Oystons. That isn’t relevant to where we are now though…we have an owner that has come in and only this season stated that promotion is the target. I think he would have been better saying we need to consolidate in this league for a few season and then have a platform to really make a go of the Championship long term once the developments are sorted. Instead he’s installed another ex manager who can’t get us in reach of a play off berth, who delivers turgid football (like tonight) and progress in any department over the last two years where it matters is pretty much undetectable. All the while saying very very little and resurrecting fan engagement programmes that KOKO could have come up with to pacify the gullible for a bit longer. And the new east and the training ground remain jam tomorrow/these things take time territory. It will be watervoles being detected and access road issues next.

He’s over promised and over reached and is under delivering or simply not being honest. I certainly won’t be taken for a patsy and am surprised how many are to be honest. Sadler isn’t impressing me at all….and it isn’t to do with spending money on mad signings.
