6g internet

After a small disagrement (me telling them where to place thier offer)with virgin media about them not wanting to make an acceptable offer to reduce thier internet costs to someone who has used them since the the telewest days(new customers get better deals according to thier customer relations person) despite been fairly reasonable about this when haggling on previous cost cutting missions. i have decided to see what else is available and the only comaparable speeds of 100mb are provided by the new company 6g internet who have been placing masts around blackpool. seen as city fibre are not in a rush with their gigabit rollout.

i wondered if anyone is using them and provide feedback on what the service is like. reading the online reviews is a mixed bag.

I haven’t used them but if your contract has run it’s course and you call to tell most providers you are leaving it’s surprising what kind of deals they can suddenly pull out of the hat. The logic is it’s cheaper to give save one customer in costs than attract new customers. Loyalty to most companies generally means you get turned over I am afraid. Hope you sort it👍

ALWAYS change providers at the end of the contract using Quidco/Top Cashback/Broadband Genie. It's a no-brainer. It's all the same shit through the cable give or take the customer service.

That said, I would like faster speed and can't get Virgin so would also like to know what 6G is like...

Interesting rot. I'm in the middle of rowing with Sky. I agreed a deal, the DD was for £16 more and when I pointed out their confirmation email for the 18m deal, they said that was before price increases. How we laughed.

Just looked at broadband genie and it's giving me a £110 giftcard which would bring my cost down by £6+ to 24. Might let it lapse and sign up using them.

I always renegotiate at the end of contracted periods. never had a problem doing this in the past with both sky and virgin, tend to play one off against the other. just this time they were been really unrealistic, and outright tried to blag me. when i quoted the T&C of thier new deal back at them and said you have basically just lied to me in your last statement, and then he refussed to send me a copy of the complaints procedure, so i processed the cancellation. This was all done over chat function so i have a copy of what he said.
Funnily enough i've already had 4 calls from the retention team today that i haven't answered whilst at work. i will answer the next one and no doubt will get something close to the new person deal they are offering that they dont want to offer existing customers.

I know it's a dance but its all time wasted in getting it sorted.

Yeah, I wouldn't even waste the time haggling. Just switch. I've been with BT, Plusnet, Sky, EE, Now Broadband, Shell Broadband, probably more. They're all exactly the same. Get the sign up bonus and switch at the end. Job done. Likewise for SIM only deals.

I’ve recently had Virgin full fibre fitted and it comes into the router at over 1,000 mbps. On a speedtest average on my phone/iPad in the same room as router it has a wifi download speed of 700mbps plus. I also bought some Decos to spread the signal around the house. It all works great and the deal for first 18 months is great..£32 a month. I was paying £24 with Sky for the normal 50mbps type internet.
I know they’ll try to bend me over at the end of the contract but I’ll deal with that in about 17 months time.

If you cant get full fibre then all the providers are much of a muchness as they all use the same system

Yep, it’s a brand name.

Generally these companies are putting up very tight-band Wi-Fi access points (more capable than the ones you have at home, but basically the same technology). This gives great performance while the take up is low, but it will degrade as more users on your street join the service. It’s also a little fragile around bad weather (so no Netflix if it’s absolutely bucketing down).

If you want reliability, you can’t beat wires. Virgin Media are pretty good generally, but they have had a shocker recently with downtime. But if you want fast and reliable internet overall they are the best we can get in Blackpool. I’ve never had their TV or phone stuff mind you.

Just as a follow up to this for anyone else who is at the end or out of contract with Virgin.
I wanted to cancel tv, landline and keep the 250mb internet package only currently advertised for £30 a month on a 24 month contract for new customers only. I suggested they should be able to match this for a loyal customer but the best they could offer on the initial call was £47 per month, still a saving on the £71 they wanted for all 3 services but nowhere near what they advertise for new customers, so i cancelled with the standard 30 days notice period.

The retentions team started ringing the next morning but i have ignored them until today, when i took the call they can now offer an 18 months broadband only contract for £22 a month which unsuprisingly i have taken.

It is worth the hassle of leaving and then ignoring them for a while as a £49 a month saving is better than i expected.
