A bit of Suddick magic

Way ahead in skill factor for the time. If he played for a more 'fashionable' side, he would have been eulogised by the football hierarchy.
A truly exciting player, who was the 'King of Bloomfield Road'.
He could be lazy, and was injury prone - but what a player. The only player who comes close besides Tony Green is Charlie.

How lucky have I been seeing all 3!

Heard from a few players in that team that he wasnt much of a team player and not the most liked, saying that he did have many seasons here so cant have affected him much. Some great goals and they say one of the best ever.

He scored from a free kick versus Sheffield United in 1968 or 1969 in my first ever football match. I was standing in the Kop end towards what is now the East stand- I could barely see over the wall & remember a policeman standing on my hand for putting it on the wall. Got a free ticket from a neighbour ( would have cost 5 shillings/25p). Definitely character building supportIng Blackpool growing up where I lived & I could have easily weakened & become a Liverpool fan in that era but that wouldn’t have been half as eventful. When I look at the team sheet & see the quality we had & have had the good fortune to have met the likes of Tony Green & Terry Alcock in later life I could only dream of a team like that now.

It rankles to this day that the TV cameras weren't at BR when we played Verona and Suddick scored THAT goal. Without a shadow of doubt the best goal that I have ever seen, anywhere.

I was on holiday from New Zealand and was able to see the Anglo-Italian cup games at Bloomfield. Over the years I have related the goal against Verona as one of the best I have seen. The final extra time wasn;t shown on TV, I was in Eddie Shimwell's pub in Matlock and he was livid.
