A Jurassic Embarrassment

So, our sleaze-free Tory Government arranged for the vote on the ratification of the Paterson report to be shunted to the end of the day whilst also securing a motion that only one MP needed to object to in order for it to fail.
Step forward Sir Christopher Chope, MP for Christchurch, who duly did no-one in the Tory Government any favours by objecting and, thereby, ensuring that the shit continues to be thrown in a fanwards direction. One Minister told a journalist, "He has been for many year a Jurassic embarrassment – tonight he crossed a line. The man should retire and the executive are livid. If he comes into the tea room tomorrow, colleagues would want to say two words to him and the second word would be ‘off’.”

Of course, Chope is no stranger to such filibustering tactics. His previous objections include delaying the passage of legislation on upskirting, FGM, the pardoning of Alan Turing and free hospital parking for carers. During the 2009 expensesgate findings Chope was found to have claimed £137k in expenses in a single year.

It just goes to show how incompetent this Government really is. Not only does it have the gall to attempt to get Paterson off the hook in the first place but once it found that the game was up it can't then perform its U-turn convincingly.

But the people of Christchurch would not it appears, think any of this is a problem

I've never heard of him but his reasoning that he agrees but wants it debated seems fair enough and could land some more Tories in it, hence their anger.

Don't be hoodwinked Lytham. The man's disingenuous and gets in the way of reasonable, decent private members bills which gets them gerrymandered off the timetable. He's a far-right Thatcherite and knows what he's doing - it's never an innocent plea for a bill to be debated.

I'm trying to be more tolerant of others views, you're ruining it with facts.
