A large slice of…..

Humble pie for all the Appleton haters?

‘He’s not up to the job, he’s taking us down, didn’t want him, he’s shit, no tactics’ etc, etc, etc

He’s a decent manager and we’ll be fine this season! Keep the faith and UTMP
Very true . . . let's hope they now kick on.

It's a time to celebrate, not a time for sniping Kirky.
The supporters in general were frustrated and the manager usually takes the stick - ask Steve Bruce and Bilic!
This win will hopefully start a winning run, but we've still got tough games on the horizon.

Come on…. Some of the comments regarding MA and some of the team from some of our supporters was snipping in itself!
No negativity from me, just nice to point out what many were saying on here regards the team and manager - and to give it time and it will click. We still have a shit load of injuries and that was a promising result.
Have a great weekend 👍

Feels good doesn’t it.

Just like when you lose a game you can’t draw many conclusions. Tough game next week. Lose that and most people will swing back to despair.

We need to see where we are at the World Cup break then again on Jan 1st.

No denying today has done wonders for everyone’s outlook and rightly so.

Need to see a run of 5/6 games with that midfield three that finished the second half.

It's one win, it doesn't make him a great manager just as a few poor results don't make him a bad manager, let's judge him at the end of the season. If he keeps us up he's done a great job in my opinion.

Today was a great result and for the first 10 minutes and last 45 a good performance too. I still feel we showed the opposition far too much respect after our first goal though and that coincides with a period in which they completely dominated the game.

If we play our game - that is attempting to get on the ball and work it accross the pitch and up either wing - we look a much better team, whereas when we sit back and allow the opposition to dictate play we look much poorer for it. If we played to our own strengths more often this season than what I feel we have done, which is attempt to stifle the opposition instead, then I think we’d probably be a few points better off.

Perhaps now with Bridcutt being available and Appleton seeing he can play his desired tactic with success we’ll play more to our strengths going forward.

I’m delighted with Bridcutt today. He completely changed the course of the game. I’ll be even happier when we have a RB at RB and Yates can actually focus on being a forward for 90 mins.

As for a proper RB going forward in the not too distant future, I'm not sure but doesn't Lyons seem more of a Gabriel than a Sterling.

Gabriel is decent going forward but not the best at the back always, we could do with a solid RB like Sterling was.

Connolly plays ok at RB he doesn’t have Gabriels pace so doesn't go forward with as much regularity maybe.

Just thinking of the future a little here.

Either way it'll be good to get Gabriel back and Lyons in not to far off now.

You were slagging the club yourself only a few days ago… talk about hypocrisy

I think Connolly is making huge improvements at RB, and he gives us the option to play with a bit more solidity that maybe Gabriel offers. Connolly doesn't get forward as much but when he does he tends to have a bit of quality, the cross for Madine's header being one example. As well as the goals and assists he's picked up along with way.

I think with us wanting the midfielders higher up the pitch than Critchley allowed, Callum's best position for the squad is at RB.

Even after a performance like that and tactical switch at HT to win us the game there’s no praise for him.

I often think we, as fans, are the hindrance to MA at the moment.

I did think today, there was an element of fortune with his substitutions today. Thought it was a mistake replacing Theo with Lavery to give us a front three of Lavery, Yates and Madine. However, Madine got injured and he had to bring CJ on.

The game changed on that moment.

Wow. Didn't see it that way at all.

I agree and people seem to be missing the fact that he’s rejuvenated Jerry Yates as well.

He was pretty much sacked off 2nd half of last season by Critchley, but Appleton has been able to move him out wide and he’s performing and grafting.

If you’d said in the summer Jerry Yates will be right wing and be scoring an obscene finish, people would have said you were mad. Hats off to MA.

Game of opinions Wizz, that's fine. Would CJ have come on and Yates play centre if Madine hadn't got injured? We don't know but his hand was certainly forced to make a change. We scored a few mins later and CJ was the key.

Good substitution for Bridcutt but mang around me the balance of the midfield 3 wax wrong before kick off.

Just give him some credit.

Have you not watched our last 3 performances?

Theo was a mistake, but he wouldn’t close his man down therefore killing the whole idea he had sent us out with in the second half. Theo was brought off at 1-1.. We won the game 3-1.

I think that as Yates was playing out wide to help cover Connolly, their defence forgot about him as a striking threat. That gave him the space he needed

Gosh, abuse for posting an opinion on how I saw things.

What a nice person you are.

Theo was continually failing to involve others in his forward runs. His last weak shot to miss the target was the final straw for Appleton and he told Lavery to get ready.
That's how I saw it.

I don't think he's the right man for the job and it will take a lot more than one win to change my mind. It's easier to be negative rather than positive though in the situation we are in so the ones who back him and have the faith deserve a moment after a win.
I hope long term Appleton proves me wrong .

Both Yates goals were scored from coming in field from wide right, certainly not from centre.

You are right but he was waiting in line with the 6 yard box when Hamilton crossed. Lavery went wide and Yates came inside from his pass for the next one.

The point I am making but obviously badly is Jerry can easily be marked out of the game playing up front, but he finds more space coming from wide positions

Although last season we beat Fulham and had some good performances vs the ex prem sides, we didn't put one to the sword like yesterday.

I think it shows some of the improvements we've made in the midfield at times, some of the attacking intent improvements too.

We're not the finished article yet but we've definitely seen a more settled and confident side in the last few games.

Seems to be coming together a bit more and some good partnerships being formed.

I agree with that especially if the style of play and formation leaves him isolated up front.

It’s your downright ignorance, probably due to a disliking of him, that you refuse to admit MA made the correct substitutions to win us the game. Specifically the Bridcutt one.

Delfino, It's grim up North still thinks that one swallow makes a Summer. 😀
It’s called understanding of football, something you which you evidently don’t have.

It’s been obvious in most games, granted some times it hasn’t, how we’re trying to play and that’s on the front foot with aggressive playing and pressing. Yesterday was a culmination of it all coming together against a very good side.

You keep looking at everything from a half empty glass, Kavala.

Not a bit of it.

I've not seen a front three of Lavery, Madine and Yates work so well as much as I quite like all of them individually.

That's where the manager went to yesterday.

He had to change again due to Madine's injury. Hamilton came on and was brilliant for the goal. Who knows what would have happened if Madine didn't get injured. We may have won, we may not. We'll never know. It's all opinions.

Perhaps if you know everything you should get a punditry job on TV.

I merely said I thought there was an element of luck. Sometimes manager's are right, sometimes the situation works out for them.

I'll leave you to wet yourself cos someone may have another opinion you disagree with

Yates stayed wide and Lavery went more central if you ask me. Opinions indeed.

He did you're right, think my key point though was that i thought the choice of Lavery on the left for the initial sub wasn't great. He had to change it again when Madine got injured only a few mins later and he then went to CJ who made the second goal. We don't know what would have happened if Madine had stayed on.

Fulham and Bournemouth were absolutely trouncing the division when we played them last season though while Watford were on a run of 2 wins in 9 and having just sacked their manager. It was obviously a great performance yesterday but different circumstances.
