A level results day

A stressful time for some. Hope you all got what you hoped for.

No doubt the Daily Mail will be saying how easy they are these days, but I've seen the effort my daughter put in and it is far more than I ever did back in the so called golden age of exams.
Until I opened the thread I thought you were going to say you’ve just sat them. 😬

Bagful of A level results and then straight to the dole queue or cleaning tables in McDonalds.
Best of luck boys and girls because your going to need it.

I think we can safely say that any kids sitting their exams in the last couple of years and even next year too, have been doing so at a great disadvantage compared everyone before them who is under the age of 75. Those who do well, deserve a huge pat on the back.

As an aside, i think it's interesting to hear the changes teachers have had to make, to ensure a robust and rigorous process to grading. Seems to me that this could be something worth adopting going forward as it really places an emphasis on EVERY child being monitored and taught with a high level of attention to detail. It would need a lot more government support - something those millions we're saving from Brexit can help fund - and innovative thinking to breaking the perceived conventions of teaching and the teaching role, but i can see a lot of potential benefits to help level up the playing field in a positive way.

I'm sure our resident teachers will be able to tell me it's not as simple as that, but wondering how it would go across as an initial concept?

Sounds like namby pamby wet nursing if you ask me.

I never did my exams as I was already working and having far too much fun. I have done pretty well for myself, however I do regret not doing them.

This country needs SKILLED Labour, the wages are flying up which is great news for any young people who decide they may want to train for a job instead of going to University. It doesn’t always lead to a well paid job.

The current shortage is UNSKILLED workers. Bring in the Army.

It doesn't really matter what type of job you want or feel your made out for. Getting yourself educated to the highest possible standard is never going to be a bad thing.

Agreed, but it has to lead somewhere, or what’s the point

Good luck to all those Seasiders out there awaiting A level and GCSE results (next week). Whatever the results it's an important milestone in becoming who you want to be. The world is your oyster!
I believe the GCSE results ( o levels to an oldy like me) are out this Thursday but I could be wrong.
Our “cousins boy” got 4 A* and is off to Imperial College to study medicine...aiming one day to be a Surgeon.Lot of hard work ahead for him.

There is a big problem with grade inflation that needs to be addressed
You can't have 46% ( think that's the figure ) getting the top grade
That said I have to say I did bugger all work for mine 😂

I hate that it gets so much publicity these days. How must those poor kids feel who’ve not done so well.
I just don’t remember it getting a mention in my day on the news

It's all very well more and more kids getting the results needed to go to University just a shame there isn't enough places available or lecturers to teach them. Some students being paid 10 grand to go to a different university than the one they wanted.
If you print off more and give away more tickets than available places it shouldn't be a surprise to find out you haven't got enough room for everybody. And all this from the people that are educating the kids.... Academic genius and not an ounce of commonsense.... 😂

TSSJr1 got exactly what he needed to make the next step to do a Police Degree. He wanted to do the apprenticeship, but due to Covid (stopping tests etc) hasn't been driving long enough.

If they reopen that option he'll apply there.

TSSJr2 GCSE results due Thursday.

The whole education assessment system has changed beyond recognition from when I did it.

BTec's (soon to be T-levels) are rated as highly as A-levels. TSSJr2 will be doing T-level in Health & Social Care as a way in to studying to be a paramedic at Uni.

It hasn't taken me some time to check my own prejudice about qualifications to be honest

Lastly, @TwelveAngryMen makes a good point about grade inflation. I was speaking to a teacher tonight about it. They reckon 20% of students will stuff up on the day. Asking a teacher to assess which one to basically guess who that would be is impossible - so they don't and predict the grade they would get if they didn't stuff up.

Sadly, in the very near future, 20% will stuff up and won't get the grades they could have achieved if they didn't.
