Workington were in the FL .
Good call on Durham, who did have a league club for a few seasons in the 1920s. Most people in Durham support Sunderland with a few Newcastle fans mixed in - probably a 70/30 split, but in some ways Co Durham see itself as separate to Tyne and Wear, and I could imagine if Durham had stayed in the league they'd be of similar size to the clubs around Manchester, ie Oldham, Rochdale etc.Staines, Durham, Warwick, Slough
Selhurst Park is 2.5 miles away from Croydon. Most people in Croydon follow PalaceCroydon

Town is the rugby league team, the reds are the football team. Was Workington Town, isn't the Reds the rugby team?
Living down here I'd say the West Country is more of a rugby area. Having said that, Plymouth Argyle is a club definitely on the 'up'. Large catchment area; Devon and Cornwall. Average attendance last season was 13000 approx in a ground that holds just over 16000. Sound familiar? The population is around 262000, compared to Blackpools 140000.Plymouth is definitely not in Cornwall but there are plenty of their fans from Cornwall.
There’s a reason…..What's weird about Lancaster is it doesn't have any sporting team of note.
Places like Warrington and Wakefield have very strong rugby league traditions, Chelmsford is where Essex play county cricket, Gloucester is a rugby stronghold and Lancaster has... er... nothing.
?There’s a reason…..
None of these are large towns though, Workington is the biggest of those with 25k, or about the same as St Annes, shame though, Workington is a great little town. For such a large area, I'm surprised that Carlisle was, until recently, the only FL club in Cumbria.
Barrow have joined them, but Penrith, Keswick, Kendal, Workington, Whitehaven never seem to have made it.
