A Ray Of Hope For Those ' Wrongly ' In Tier 3 ?

While I agree that there is definitely an obsession with London on this forum, I think it's fair for him to refer to London when so many areas with falling infection rates have been been placed in Tier 3 and have to put up with the associated restrictions.

His post is perhaps more about the inconsistency of the Goverment's decision process than any anti London agenda ?
Rates in London are much lower than here. Westminster 99.9, Camden 94, Islington 111, Southwark 104. These figures are a s near as damn from memory and were published yesterday.

Just look what's happened to Wales. The came out of their lockdown and have seen numbers rise fast almost immediately.

This isn't about North and South, it's about trying to keep the rate down everywhere. Personally I think they have made an error re Christmas and should never allow 3 family households to mix, we all know what is going to happen because of this. The lockdown is starting to take effect and numbers are falling in most places. They should probably have kept the lockdown going for longer but businesses are going to the wall every minute of the day so there has to be some way to try and stop that.

the problem is, the 5 days of Christmas is likely to result in 28 days of lockdown across England.

The sooner the vaccine is out there and being used the better.

People would have ignored a Christmas lockdown. At least 3 households gives a legitimate number to aim at. If it was just a support bubble, then people would have taken a 'may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb' attitude and who knows how many would meet up. 3 households at least plants the seed of restraint (probably should be 6 adults max).

You will know far more about the rates than me and I have no need to argue with what you say about those specific areas. in London.

I believe that of the 212 areas that will exit the latest lockdown into a higher tier than when they went in, 86 have a lower infection rate than when they went into lockdown.

My figures could be slightly out and I agree that infection rates are not the only factor considered by the decision makers.

I am certainly not one of the many on here with an anti London agenda, I consider it to be the finest city on the planet, and you won't catch me banging on and on about any North/South divide but I can certainly see why people - in this case GJ - would question why London has been placed in Tier 2 while other areas with falling infection rates have been placed in Tier 3.

There may also be wider benefits in terms of compliance in the weeks running up to and possibly after Christmas, people "working towards Christmas" might follow the rules more closely than otherwise and likewise afterwards view them as part of the trade.

The alternative as you say is likely people ignoring them anyway and this contributing towards a general slackening of compliance and "lock-down fatigue".

The reality is we are facing tougher sanctions both pre and post Xmas to accommodate this nonsense notion that Xmas is sacrosanct

Tell that to the owners of businesses that will go to the wall as a result and those who have family members who won't see the next one

Paul Maynard - abstained
Scott Benton - voted for Tier 3

Absolutely invertebrate.

Meanwhile, at the release from lockdown, they are queueing 10 deep to get into the White Rose Primark in Leeds. I'll give it a week before the rate goes upwards again.
