A timely wake-up call

If the board ever needed a reminder that we can't allow the deadline to slip by tomorrow without making some key signings, then tonight was it.

Started well, Rovers scored against the run of play with their first chance, and it went mostly downhill from there. What worries me is how easily we're being carved open so far this season. Let's be honest here, if it wasn't for Grimmy, that second half could've been very embarrassing. We were chasing shadows for the first half hour of it. I think with the players we have missing, MA needs to be more pragmatic and accept that if we go all out attacking with players who don't possess the composure or passing ability to control possession for long periods, then we're going to get severely undone. Wait until Patino and Fiorini are back.

The other thing that was worrying is that there is nothing on the bench in terms of firepower to change the game. Absolutely zilch. All three strikers we have available started the game, and none of them look particularly lethal in front of goal.

Tomorrow is such an important day - get it wrong and we are really going to struggle this season I think. You can't compete in this league by signing players for the development squad, or ones that only join in January. We need first team championship quality in, and we need it by 11pm tomorrow. We've been trying to sign a midfielder for well over a year now - I know we have to spend our money wisely, but it really shouldn't take this long. There's no point waiting two years to land the right player if you get relegated in the meantime. I suspect Bowler will be sold tomorrow, and we need 2-3 players in with the money that can go straight in to the team.

One bright point from tonight is that I thought Poveda looked very useful when he came on. Looks like he could be at least a capable replacement for Josh.

Tonight happened due to the lack of incoming transfer activity this window, combined with injuries. We shouldn't really be down to the bare bones after seven games, but here we are.

T'rovers looked far more likely to score a second than us equalising. Grimmy made two or three good saves, but T'rovers just missed the far post about 5 times. I did think we should've had a penalty with about 15 minutes left but maybe it could have been deemed to be 50/50. For me, there was too much space between our lines. We MUST stop passing backwards and sideways along the back four and keeper because it all looks last-ditch, and T'rovers forwards constantly put us under pressure forcing passes to go astray, when they then burst forward.
We huffed and puffed and tried really hard towards the end, and a couple of good chances skimmed the bar. However chuffed I would be had we equalised, I wouldn't have really thought we deserved a draw.
I'm sure we can do a lot better.
