A view from the balcony

Having decided that today was the day to use the hospitality vouchers given for Christmas, my two lads and I set off earlier than usual to make sure we got to Blackpool in plenty of time.

Plenty of Sunderland fans making their way to Wigan meant the roads weren't completely quiet, but no traffic issues.

Was able to make good time, so popped in to Carleton Crem to see my mum and sister; always nice to be able to do it as it's not always possible.

Made our way to a pretty quiet Lonsdale Road car park; parked up and made our way in to hospitality for the first time.

Walking past the steward glancing at shoes as it's a requirement not to have trainers; given the table number and off we go.

The shirts on the wall are a nice touch; it's a shame they don't go further back in our history, and we should start adding a few more from beyond 2010 - but not the obvious ones.

Into the Matthews Suite and it first impressions were pretty good. We were crammed in a little, but most of these places are, plenty of tangerine accents - I wasn't 100% sure about the mirrors in the ceiling and did think that it may have been something the previous owners took great delight in having in there.

We ended up sitting on a table with a group of 7 some of whom post on here (although they only had six settings at first) who were great company throughout the day and included us in conversations. Not that easy as we were complete strangers, and harder with an 18 and 12 year old in tow; but they were terrific.

Food served, and it was fine, yes there was a long delay between first and second courses, but I didn't feel rushed to make sure I ate it before kickoff.

John Murphy and Grant Ward were interesting enough, the questions weren't the most challenging mind.

Used an app to order drinks, worked fine. Very impressed with the 200mbs upload/download speed from the free WiFi; be brilliant if they could get that to the rest of the ground at some point.

Got to say the atmosphere when watching the game was pretty flat; and my eldest was frustrated with it (prefers the North!) so he just tried his best. We moved so we could stand throughout and not block the view of some old fella.

First half flew past, chocolate dessert thing, was tasty; queuing up to pour your own coffee though seems a little un-corporate. (Same at full time). They didn't appear to top them up either.

Nice touch from the club was a free book for the youngest as part of the get Blackpool to Read scheme or something; and an autographed poster which he will get framed.

Man of Match Gary Madine agreed he'd not played very well; and that was that.

Apart from my boys going back on to the balcony to watch the media interviews.

We called out to Neil Critchley, who came up, took a football off a young supporter and got it signed by the players in the dressing room.

He then came back and answered questions from my eldest who coaches a girls grass roots team for a good 5 minutes in the freezing cold. Critchley couldn't do enough, explained some of his changes v Fulham etc and was a class act.

Shook our hands, took the chance to say thanks and to wish him well and off we went. On the way out of the building we bumped into Madine and Marv who were both happy to pose for photographs.

Drive home was easy, plenty of happy Mackems and a chance to reflect on how far we've come as club.

Great day and something my boys will treasure.

When you saw the kids at Chelsea on Thursday live you realised we are a proper Club - investment and a bright future if we carry on at every level

Recruit more mates everyone and enjoy the run in

Great account TS Seasider and thanks for sharing such a positive experience - North Stand needs you back 👍

the questions weren't the most challenging mind.
Been up twice this season and great guests but the host clearly has two much on his plate organising the room and clearly doesn't put any thought in to what he actually asks. All a bit banal which is sad considering the quality of the guests.

Great to hear mate 👍🏼 We were in corporate in a box today and had a great day as well. When we came out Marvin was coming out as well……. how fooking tall is he 😳😳😳
Who was looking after the South stand menace 😁

TS - so that was you then. Delighted to meet you and I'll add that your two lads are an absolute credit to you. Glad your eldest gave it some on the balcony. We did our best too from row A. Back to C block for the next one but I'll keep an eye out for you all 👍

Sounds like a grand day out.

I've never been in hospitality. I seem to be able to buy tickets on the club website in the 1953 club for £0.00. How does that work?

My eldest is 6' 5"+ so he didn't feel that tall; he did however, according to my lads "smell great"

Make of that what you will 🤣

Thanks, as I've said, your group made it really easy and that helped us have a great time.

Great to meet you TSSeasider and glad to hear your lads had a cracking day out!

Tend to agree with O/P.
Likewise, I was there yesterday and third visit this season.

Disadvantages though are the atmosphere is not the same although a few were trying to createsomething.
Always leave half legless as drinks readily available especially half time and after game.

Will be Band A game. £100. Less discount for STH.
Cat a? That would be a huge mistake.

Its a big game with a bit more meaning and a chance to sell more than usual, but nothing that justifies raising the price for.

My Father went in the lounge, first time this season with his family and had a fantastic time, said it was a first class experience. They even took his grandson downstairs to meet the team after the game and gave him a signed programme. His dad is a fanatical Evertonian but his son is slowly coming round to Blackpool.

Categories were announced pre season. I'm guessing because I can't be bothered to look it up

Nice account of your day TSS, glad you enjoyed it mate and the day made up for your long commute (especially the result).
Only everyone corporate once and enjoyed it.
BTW, maybe your lad should coach the team for a few hours at a time rather than just 5 minutes in the freezing cold !
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Cat A and B difference is only a tenner.

For it to be a cat a game means normal tickets would be 28 and 30 quid, I know your on about hospitality but the category applies to all doesn't it?

It would be a big mistake to make this a cat a game. Should carry on as normal as a cat b, if they have any sense and meaning to help grow and maintain the crowd numbers.

Blimey that is good !

I was informed ages ago this was a Cat A game.
Booked for 2 for the game.

Stop moaning about prices. Notts Forest will bring a big crowd and both stands and hospitality will sell out.
Give some money back to the club!

Just looked on the ticket site and yep 28 quid or 30 for walk ons.

Thats a bit of an I'm alright Jack response. I am alright too but its about growing the fanbase in these bigger games. Stop moaning? I dont get why some don't want to see more pool fans in the stadium, bizarre.

We'll see if it sells out and if so only imagine what we might get with a reasonable price and a part of the NE available.

Not seeing anything from the club to capitalise on these bigger occasions.

The priorities are all wrong here, rather than charge 28 or 30 we should be opening the east side to pool fans if the game is ao popular and charging a fair amount.

The cat system is a poor idea.

I've never been a fan of categorised pricing, as I think the only game that any Blackpool fan would consider paying a premium to watch is the PNE game. The rest are all the same to me.

For next season I'd like to see a flat £25 for all games, with a reduction for 18-21 years olds.

That said, I do think that the configuration of the east stand seriously hinders us. How would we use the north half of it while the away fans exit that side? If they didn't, we're back to square one with how away fans leave the stadium. You can't put the away fans in the north half due to no facilities. I've no idea how we managed it in the Premier league seeing as it seems to cause so many problems now. I think and hope the club will have a real drive to increase the number of people through the turnstile once the east has been redeveloped. It's such a shame it hasn't already been done and we can't really fully capitalise on the improving status of the club.

Certainly needs a re think for me.

Yes the East isn't ideal but maybe being proactive the club could have got some temp facilities in the corner.

Also we don't use it to its fullest.

I could put up with a different away fan exit arrangement if meant us having the east for home fans.

The away fans end up passing still anyway, just a bit delayed.

Home fans in the East, you then open that gate and let home fans deom the north go that way and that massively reduces congestion.

I did a post the other week showing how the lesser priced higher attendance strategy can make virtually the same money as a higher one, whilst building the fanbase too.

The price strategy has been the biggest let down for me.
