Im not convinced about Abramovich being a Putin influencer, my POV is that he is under the influence of Putin, and is another one who operates under "license" and a significant part of Putins wealth is rumoured to be held for Putin as are many other oligarchs.

you have to ask that if there is a 2.6 billion dollar loan outstanding for chelsea and it is on the official books that has to be breaking Uefa and EPL FFP rules, as always no one does anything.

a simple emergency administration of chelsea FC and freezing of assets of chelsea and abramovitch sorts that one out. if emergency admin was to be applied to russian businesses there would only be four or five PL clubs not under admin. a good few in the EFL as well

Yes he’s a Russian speaking Latvian. There will be some testing times in the Baltic states.

I remember being in Tallinn for an England game in about 2007 and hearing it kicking off near us. Thought it was the usual local hoodlums having a pop at the English. Turned out to be a mass street fight between Russian-speaking Estonians and ‘Estonian’ Estonians. It won’t take much to reignite these divisions.
 
His decision to take Israeli Citizenship looks like a wise move and might even help protect him, and Chelsea for that matter 😡.
 
Abramovich has always been dodgy. He only bought Chelsea to give him a profile to help protect to himself. Quite disgusting we have the likes of him, city and Newcastle owning footy clubs in the country. Unfortunately it says a lot about our moral compass and the sight of Newcastle fans gleefully dressed as Arabs and giving legitimacy to a regime that killed a journalist and has awful human rights made me puke. Sports washing sucks....

Ukrainian film director and producer Alexander Rodnyansky confirmed the Chelsea owner's involvement in attempts to reach a peaceful resolution, but added he is unsure of the impact it will have.

"I can confirm that the Ukrainian side have been trying to find someone in Russia willing to help them in finding a peaceful resolution," said Rodnyansky.

"They are connected to Roman Abramovich through the Jewish community and reached out to him for help. Abramovich has been trying to mobilize support for a peaceful resolution ever since.

"Although Abramovich's influence is limited, he is the only one who responded and taken it upon himself to try.

"If this will have an impact or not, I don't know, but I am in contact with [Ukraine President Volodymyr] Zelensky's staff myself, and know that they are grateful for his genuine efforts."

In addition, Abramovich's daughter Sofia posted an anti-Putin meme on her Instagram account, so maybe her dad has been taking notice of her.

In Soviet times, Russification was a policy whereby thousands of Russians were shipped in to take over areas and dilute the ethnic bloodstock . There's still a strong Russian presence in the Baltics as a consequence.

being cynical, this is just smoke and mirrors. He’s trying to prevent being sanctioned.
 
Found it quite funny that all the news presenters on BBC have started pronouncing his name the Russian way after using the anglicised pronunciation for the last two decades...

He did stress the victims of war on both sides but I’am not aware of any Russian (civilian) victims in this particular onslaught. 🤔
 
Posted on another thread there’s a whiff of ambiguity about his statement re his donation to ‘all victims of the war’. Hmmm.
 
Abramovich said “the NET proceeds from the sale of Chelsea are going towards victims of the war.”
Which basically means however much he decides, after deducting his purchase price (adjusted for inflation), cost of sale, expenses and anything else he can deduct. In other words, bugger all. I stand to be corrected, of course.

I think he is just stalling for time. No-one is going to pay his £3 billion asking price at the moment. They will wait for the fire sale, if it comes before his assets are seized.
 
Let’s hope “the Net” ( alternative version) closes in first and his assets are seized.

Its way more than him.Theres a whole load of others who should have been punished. Johnson has said 100 have been sanctioned and has mentioned 275 too but the govt could only name 15 yesterday. His lying is blatant, even in this sad situation he has no moral .strength

I reckon the loans will be factored into the asking price.
Anyway, some are saying that the real and covert owner of Chelski might actually be Putin himself (as the original source of the money).
