Accountability At The End Of The Season

Well for better or worse we have what we have so we might as well enjoy the season and our mates at games. We could accomplish all that we're aiming for but have we used January to set ourselves up for success? If at the bare minimum, we don't make the playoffs I hope the owner looks at this point of the season and asks himself did he do his best by the club? I don't think he has and frankly failure this season means for me that I'm underwhelmed with his tenure thus far. Actions not words are what counts in life. At least Karl didn't pretend to be something he wasn't.

I think we wait until the end of the season. I have my own thoughts but would like to see how the next 3 months pan out before coming to any conclusions. I think we have the players and we are in a position where we can make the play offs. Let's just wait and see.

Agreed. But we haven't been in the play off positions all season so improvement needs to happen now.

What exactly are you complaining about?

And what exactly are you accusing the owner of doing or not doing?

Your words are barely intelligible.

Clearly ‘theoneandonly’ has forgotten to put the final word on his username .. suggestions please 😁

I think we are improving and with the likes of Kouassi coming back and Gabriel plus Coulson looking really good I think/hope we will being more consistent, we need to beat Stevenage and Oxford though!

No point you being in a conversation that you neither contribute to nor can barely understand. Find your level or start a conversation of your own.

We need to stay free of injuries and make crystal clear to our defenders what their role is.

Promotion isn't served on a silver lined platter. Time is needed to rebuild. We are still the best placed of the relegated teams and the only one with a chance of going back up.
Chance by definition means we are in a play off position. We have not been that all season but with a little luck may achieve that.

We will be there or thereabouts
thereabouts is no use to us as any player worth their salt will want to play at a higher level. If we start losing players more time in recruitment, team gelling and aiming again to get promoted. We will never have a better opportunity than this year.

Thereabouts includes the play offs, we are sneaking closer as the games in hand dwindle.

Yeah… he really owes more to the swathes of people, batting down the door to get in - queuing around the block whilst he siphons off all those grazzilions of pounds into his own back pocket like the Oystons you reference… I don’t know how the man can look any of the few thousand that bothered turning up last night in the eye. We should be looking at a Champions League place by now. It’s a scandal. The authorities really need to look into this philanthropic nonsense.

Utter rubbish!

What planet are you on?! We’ve clearly turned the corner. We’re on a run now. Admittedly we’ve underachieved in terms of points in the first half of the season. However, you cannot levy any blame at the owner. We have a very strong squad for this league, certainly good enough to be top two. I’ve no doubt we will be top 6 at the end of the season. The players we have let go this window are on the periphery.

If we don’t go up we will have the side in place to go up automatically next year. After the shit show last year it was always going to take some rebuilding. But I think we will make the play offs and then of course we are the world champions at winning them

The end of the season is too late, had we been serious about promotion we'd have sacked Critchley before Christmas. The thing is as sacking him now would be pointless it may as well be him to rebuild even if we don't make the play offs. The sack Critchley boat has sailed so I very much fear we'll be in this league for some time if we don't do it this season.

I think we have a very good squad of players assembled and compete in the transfer market at a vastly better level that we did before saddler came along. Whether they then succeed or not at winning promotion is out of his hands.

Do we remember free transfers only, always on 1+1 deals, never renegotiated until it was too late? If you can't see the difference now then I think memories are too short.

We treat contracts seriously, and a couple of times this month alone have received fees for players who aren't moving us forward. These for me, are the hallmarks of a well run club.

Even when signing frees, it's often other clubs better players rather than having to polish their cast offs. Our Loans are players that other people want to sign, like Dembele or Weir; (that he then didn't deliver isn't saddlers fault btw.) rather than has beens or total unknowns.

I hope we can go up and believe we still might, but guess what, Derby, Portsmouth, Bolton, Peterborough et al would all like the same thing and there is no divine right in football.

My general feelings is that the club is overall in a really positive place whatever happens.

In SS I trust.

You don’t know that. If we don’t go up this year budgets will be adjusted, and players that have the opportunity will want to play at the highest level they can. This is an important year.

It's good to read a post like that. The teams above us are all there for a reason. Derby, Bolton, Pompey all big clubs with much bigger ticket revenue. Posh have been buying and selling well for a while. Oxford invested in their squad in the summer. Barnsley went close last season and are one of the L1/Championship yoyo types. Stevenage are over performing but have a method and do it well. And we are still involved, it's not over as some people sort of imply. We should have more points than we have, we all think we know why we haven't, it's been a slow process. But we have looked competitive recently even against Forest, home and away. And the side has been disrupted a lot of injuries and loss of form - Gabriel, Joseph, Lavery, Bees, Kouassi, Dougall's flit, Morgan and Dembele bedding in, Weir not working out, Lyons' bereavement etc.....

Financial fair play I would say we have pushed our budget ever since SS took over. The cup runs will help as we need to increase revenue wherever possible

Yep 2024 has started well and the longer we go on winning games more regularly the more it becomes second nature.

We just need to start coming back from behind now, if we go behind that is, happy for us to not concede at all mind.

The squad is coming together and players playing themselves into form and newer ones knowing how others play. Going into a season with that from the off would be huge, rather than after a stinker of a championship season.

However Dembele would be a loss, but I suppose we'd bring someone if and also Apter will have completed his apprenticeship.

Not a terrible January window with the pick of the bunch being a short term loan. At least he ticks the boxes of first team ready, fills a need in the team and experienced at this level. I might be being too optimistic but I also have high hopes for Sassi. As for departures they were all sold to us as having potential. Not potential that other clubs could unlock but we all grow at different rates so cheap risk and worth trying. I wish our scouts were a little more discerning as our success rate is no better than the Oyston era.

As for Low if it was substantial why wait until the last minute to place your bid? If it was lowball why wait until the last minute when you won’t have time to submit a revised bid?

The other thing to consider is where is the innovation at BFC? We don’t do anything any different than any of our competitors? All doing things the same way and looking at the same players. Let’s hope the manager and players complete the season strong and we stay clear of injuries.

Sadler has wasted money with poor recruitment and awarding people contracts they hadn’t earned. Yes the cup is good for us this year as aside from increased revenues it has helped players with their confidence.
