It’s not true, there won’t be a new runway built we have a perfectly adequate underused one right now.I wouldn't believe the buying Old Links story, there's already a minor runway runs that way and there's not the room to squeeze a major one in the Old Links footprint unless the planes are taxiing up St David's Rd North.
It was voted for many a year the most passenger friendly airport in the country Dave, also has the best record of remaining open due to adverse weather.Being selfish, one thing is certain, it's great to fly and return from Blackpool Airport.
Did it to Spain not long before they stopped the flights.
Used Ryanair quite a lot to fly to Standsted (£25 day return) then pick a hire car up and drive to RAF Wyton, much cheaper than hire car from Warton then overnight stay and less stressful. Drive from here to the Cambridge area can be horrendous. It was introduced as a charge to go towards the future development of Blackpool airport so people at first didn’t mind paying it as it was to be reinvested.
Sadly not a penny of it went back into the airport but mysteriously disappeared in a Black hole never to be seen again.
As a result Ryanair pulled out of the airport as they didn’t agree with the charges.
Southend Airport is also run by Stobarts. You pass it on the way to the ground.Never heard of the Amazon link but Eddie Stobbart actually looked at purchasing the airport a few years ago but got fed up of all the red tape from the council so instead pulled out and purchased Carlisle airport and spent millions on a new freight distribution centre.
It was a joke FY8,just like our council is,its most probably been discussed. Maybe more sand dunes for the enviroment or a bigger station for when the South line gets electrified.I wouldn't believe the buying Old Links story, there's already a minor runway runs that way and there's not the room to squeeze a major one in the Old Links footprint unless the planes are taxiing up St David's Rd North.
I know fella, was just reassuring the masses, hence the St David's Rd North bit, I should have gone with that thoughIt was a joke FY8,just like our council is,its most probably been discussed. Maybe more sand dunes for the enviroment or a bigger station for when the South line gets electrified.
Also did the Ryanair Stansted flight a couple of times for work. Most I paid (and claimed back on expenses!!) was £23 return.Used Ryanair quite a lot to fly to Standsted (£25 day return) then pick a hire car up and drive to RAF Wyton, much cheaper than hire car from Warton then overnight stay and less stressful. If that £10 per adult had of been used for what it was intended then the airport would probably still be open!
It was ideal PB real shame when it stopped. Also did the Ryanair Stansted flight a couple of times for work. Most I paid (and claimed back on expenses!!) was £23 return.
Parked on one of the streets off Squires Gate Lane at about half 6 in the morning then land at Stanstead for about 9am.Think the flight home was about 5pm. Would have been at least 8 hours in the car otherwise.
Must be the only airport in the Uk to go from having internal and international flights to now not even having a terminal building.
Remember about 15 years ago I took the whole family to Dublin for the weekend flew with Ryanair 4 of us cost £4.99 each out and £7.99 return it was Easter as well amazing value. Also did the Ryanair Stansted flight a couple of times for work. I heard Amazon thought it Prime land.A few years ago I was told Amazon were looking at purchasing the airport and loads of the land around it to use as an air freight and shipment hub. They pulled out as they were told they wouldn’t get support from the council to extend the runway (cargo planes need longer runways as they tend to be much heavier than passenger jets).
Would be a great move for the council if they went about this again in partnership with an international freight operator.
The runway is too short, can only take a small passenger plane 737, needs extending to take a 757 minimum. That’s not going to be the case so I wouldn’t worry too much.
The airport doesn’t need a new runway it has a perfectly adequate one right now which is vastly underused.
757’s are aircraft of the past Boeing stopped production almost 20 years ago and are being phased out now by most airlines many becoming freighter conversions. The runway is too short, can only take a small passenger plane 737, needs extending to take a 757 minimum.
