Alan Ainscow

I was there but couldn't celebrate any of the goals as I got thrown out before the kick off but got back in the their paddock!

Every time i go thru Turnstile 7 in the west i say, IT'S ALAN AINSCOW today. great player

remember him letting one go from just inside his own half nearly ripped the back of the net open only to be disallowed because one of the forwards caught offside
I remember him scoring a half volley from 30 yards into the south stand end I think it was against Darlington league Cup night match.
Pretty sure we lost 4-1

eyes of blue,
6foot 2,
big bill bentleys after you
lol
I'm proud to say I met Bill Bentley and his lovely wife in the Armfield after the QPR game when we were robbed of a winner a couple of seasons ago. He bought me a Guinness. Here's the thing, he's not that tall, but was he a hard player in his day? Oh yes. I'll never forget his role in that one nil F A cup win over Burnley. 👍

There was a FB post recently celebrating Alan Ainscow’s birthday. I commented that he used to live on Halton Gardens in Marton in one of the then new builds. I was 14/15 and delivered his newspaper. Knocked on his door for Christmas tips and he presented me with a fiver. An all action player who was a crowd favourite.

I remember Billy Bentley scoring a thunderbolt from 30 yards in a 3-2 win at Carlisle, he was a proper attacking full back. Alan Ainscow was a great midfielder and scored quite a few goals, he ran his heart out every game too. The hat trick at Deepdale was quality, I seem to remember one of the goals he took the ball from the half way line ran past a few knob end players and slotted it past the keeper. The tackle by Marsh was one of the worst I have ever seen and it was a pre season friendly, I hated the ** after that.

Did Marsh apologise for his horrendous tackle on Alan? Also, we're friendly matches not so friendly back then?
No apologising those days Gaz, there was never the coverage like there is today.
We tended to play Pne in pre season because they were never in the same league as us, home one year and away the next and the money went to charity I believe.
Burnley were always our biggest rivals till John beck took over at pne and made it this big thing.
I remember the Marsh foul but I think that was a one off.

Met Bill in a pub in Welshpool ,when i lived in Montgomery ,it was run by a good friend and ex teammate who played at Stoke with him ( any takers anyone) we talked about the Carlisle game and other memories ,he was window cleaning at the time ,one of my fav players at the Mighty, funniest memory of Bill was at the Molineux ,fans Wolves fans giving him shit , he pulled his shorts down and showed his arse to them 😆.
