Alan Carr

He had only 16 games in charge but won 5, so his record wasn't the worst in history. I was there at the time but cannot remember the reasoning behind his sacking. Always thought of him as a southerner as he only managed down south before he came to us for some reason, but he was born in Corbridge. Was it his decision to bring in King Billy?

Seem to remember he was sacked after a 5-3 defeat at Halifax in a game we were leading quite comfortably. He may have been in charge a little longer but that match stands out to me from his time in charge.

Was anyone else shocked when we brought in Graham Carr as player manager.

🤪

Didn't Alan Carr slag off the town then not long after return to turn on the illumin

Jimmy Mullen brought in Billy Ayre

He's been a scout for Newcastle, mainly bringing in French talent.

Did anybody go to the meet the manager thing at the Tangerine Club after he was appointed?
He came across as someone not very committed, made a joke about managing Northampton when the cricket club shared and departed quickly after a quick rendition of Graham Carr's Tangerine army from the fans. I'm sure Billy Ayre was there that night and he was more impressive although that might have been another time, can't quite remember.
Hard to believe Graham and Alan are father and son! Never been that keen on either of them.

Carr, Mullen, Ball, Worthington, Ince, Hendry etc, we've had many that could lay claim to being the worst!
Colin Hendry has been on Radio Lancs quite a bit lately and clearly thinks a lot of himself. If you pushed him he would definitely say he did a good job at Blackpool!
The last time I saw him, he was sheepishly sneaking into corporate for Oyston hospitality on one of the judgement day protests .
In defence of Mullen , he did keep us up the season Sam Ellis left.

Keeping us up that season was more accredited to his assistant Len Ashurst than Mullen, we went down like a lead balloon the following season when Ashurst left for Cardiff.

Yes very true although he did get the Burnley job on the back of it. He brought Eyres in as well. They loved him at Burnley for a bit but eventually showed their displeasure by trying to set his wife on fire.....

I was quite young at the time, but just after he was appointed, I was in Portugal with my parents in a BFC shirt (possibly the salmon pink Bass one!) and we got talking to a bloke, whose name I cant now remember, who was a Northampton player under Carr. I asked him about Carr as manager, and he said something like, "sorry, he's dreadful, never even watched training, he'd give a talk about what he wanted then sit on the steps of the dressing room, no where near the pitch while the coaches did everything. I'll be shocked if he lasts the season with you".
