Alcohol and the Health Service

I had the misfortune to have to spend 2 consecutive days at the Walk-In Centre and A&E last week with a relative.

It was evident that quite a few people there were the worse the wear for drink, and not only were some of them being obnoxious to the staff, they were also upsetting many sober people there with their obnoxious behaviour.

Strangely, I didn't see one person there who was suffering through smoking cigarettes - and yet they have health warnings on the packets and are not displayed in shops and supermarkets.

Contrast this with alcohol.

What really pisses me off is the hypocrisy of "boozers" including some on here, who constantly make reference to drinking or even getting "plastered" as being an acceptable activity.

At some time in the future alcohol will be controlled much more rigidly - and for me it can't come too soon.

If you disagree - tough!!!

There is no excuse for people being rude to any nurse or doctor.

Having recently been to several countries who do control alcohol tighter - unless you ban it or tax it out of existence nothing will change.

No government would dare do either of the above as it would make them unelectable.

Will it ever change? - maybe, but I would be surprised if it was in the next 25 years.

..and on that note, I am off to the pub 😎

Oh, and If you disagree - tough!!!!! 😏

Failing to mention all the smack heads and obese folk clogging our hospitals up.

My wife works at The Vic the abuse they receive by all kinds not just piss heads.

It depends on the individual.
I drink alcohol, but not to exception, a drink with a meal is enough.
Never been an habitual drinker, but like a pint or a glass if wine.
Unfortunately some people go 'over the top' with booze. That's their prerogative.
As long as they don't upset other people that's OK.
I say all this when my brother, 19 months older than I, actually drank himself to death.
Life and certain problems eventually got the better of him.
Went to bed one Saturday, 2 bottles of Rum, apparently, died in bed.
It's a long story, and the reasons for the boozing.

That’s because they are at home out of it and falling asleep 👍
Or in the Harbour, or Newton House. Good luck to anyone with a vice, legal or otherwise. It's not easy trying to navigate life without a crutch and, in any case, unashamedly enjoying oneself in the face of it all shows character 👍🏻

It’s the fundamental issues that need to be addressed, otherwise where is the problem going to go ?

Addiction issues tend to have underlying reasons and we just don’t seem to have the funding or services to address these problems, community wide, and on a deeper level.

Blackpool Vic has always been a problem on weekend nights with A&E full of pxxx heads who have fallen over or been in a fight. Unfortunately, they are taking up the space of real emergency cases. I feel sorry for the staff. They shouldn't have to put up with them.

Agreed, except it’s most nights nowadays.

I sort of feel as it’s self inflicted & not everyone behaves in a nasty manner after a drink that these idiots should be made to pay for the trouble they cause. But it starts on the slippery slope of healthcare for some only. This is nothing new as there have always been drunken brawls throughout history. We need these people to do the shit jobs & then piss it all up. If we were able to educate all people to a level where they were capable of some self control, even less of them would want to do the shit jobs. 😬

I had the misfortune to be in Macclesfield a and e a few months ago together with my daughter and most of the waiting area was made up of Rozzers waiting with villains in handcuffs to be seen!!
