I wonder why with alerts sometimes when those who tick the like box it will show in our alert box but not beneath the post they like whereas other times it will show up below the relevant post but not in our alert box. Any suggestions to account for this

Don't think they show to you as an alert if you are in the thread.

For the first one they could have revoked the like once they saw it was you.

I get you. You can have 2 alerts with "likes" but then in the actual comment 20 likes.
