Andy Lyons absence explained....

Bless Andy, thoughts are with you.

I remember an interview with Billy Ayre once. I'm paraphrasing because it was a long time ago, but he was talking about things supporters don't see or take into account in a player's performance. We just see the teamsheet, and whether we agree with it or not we hope, nay expect, that they will all perform to their maximum every time.

Bill's point was even on the day things can happen that affect them, they're only human. Kids playing up, maybe had a ruck with the wife before they left, bad traffic, even just generally feel a bit under par that day. We expect as professionals that none of that would affect a game performance, but however much they try there has to be games where it would make a difference.

I've always tried to keep that in mind since I heard him say it. Granted, depending on the game or what's happened it's sometimes harder to keep an objective opinion about it all, but I try all the same.

Bless him. So young to lose his father.

Funny walking upto the ground everyone was blaming Critchley for not picking him and why was Pennington in there and CJ at wing back. Never crossed anyone’s mind that this sort of tragedy was in his life.

just shows where priorities should lie. It seems the club have been rightly supportive and respectful of his privacy - I’m sure all of us fans will be the same. RIP. We are proud of your son Lyons family.

Quite so ...and more reason why people should take a breath before they post on Fakebook / Scrotal Media etc ..

Great post

Awful news, thoughts with Andy, hope the tangerine family can raise his spirits if that's possible, should take all the time he needs.

Noticed Andy's Dad's funeral was last Thursday. Remember when my Dad died I took 3 weeks off - there was so much to sort out and thankfully work were really good (although his was a sudden death whereas it sounds like Andy's Dad was less unexpected).
Be interesting to see how he comes back from this. Whilst you can put his form down to the system Critch was playing there's no doubt he's not the same player we saw last season and his Dad's illness must have played a part in that - death can have a funny effect on you and for me personally it spurred me on to make the best of life and hope Andy manages to get past the grief and make his Dad proud in a Blackpool shirt.
