Title of a 90 minute, Jimmy McGovern, drama on the Beeb on Monday.
Anthony Walker was a Black British student of Jamaican descent who was murdered with an ice axe by Michael Barton (brother of Joey Barton) and Barton's cousin Paul Taylor, in an unprovoked, racially motivated attack on the night of 29–30 July 2005 in Huyton, Merseyside.

Crikey, I like Jimmy McGovern but I bet that’s a bloody hard one to watch 😢

He's friends with the mother and has written it as a tribute.

Wonder when the Cod heads will claim he's innocent? They seem to have a peculiar blindness to transgressions by anyone named Barton.
 
His mother Gee and sister Dominique are both committed Christians who have chosen to forgive the two who killed him. We use Anthony's story as part of our GCSE RS syllabus.
They are better people than me given that the murder weapon was embedded 6 inches into his skull.

Well I'm not sure saying I enjoyed that is quite the right thing to say but it was well written and performed.
A very sad story.
His real life mother was there throughout the making of the film and said that when she hugged the actor, who played the part of her son, at the end of filming it was just like hugging Anthony.
RIP Anthony.
 
I couldn’t watch it, my emotions couldn’t handle it. But I read the reviews prior and the back story.
The mother of the poor lad has been so brave working with the producers of this . Brave lady and my heart bleeds for her.
There really are some stupid, nasty evil fuckers out there.

Did not know that. As a family they clearly have some sort of violent gene.
 
That's what I read as well, Glass. The report at the time was that the two later convicted fled the country . Allegedly and according to what's online , when Michael Barton contacted his brother for help Joey urged him to give himself up .
