Appleton strikes again

Tactical changes yet again making a big difference .Never always going to work but how many times is that now? I certainly do not remember seeing any manager make changes that work so often .Yes we have had a couple of dire performances but we have also played well against some good teams

I think we'd all prefer that he get his starting 11 right than have to make substitutions to change the course of a game.

He didn’t make subs at HT against Sunderland.

A manager sets up their starting XI and asks them to go out their and execute their game plan. After the players cross the white line, there is nothing the manager can do to influence the game apart from make substitutions and formation changes. He can’t pre-empt if players are going to perform to their best ability.

However, it’s a good thing he acts on it straight away and isn’t afraid to drag anyone not pulling their weight off at HT. I much rather prefer that, to get a reaction, than a NC “stick with it until 75th minute then try and change it” attitude.

Oh I agree, I'm not pinning all the blame on Appleton but playing strikers on the wing doesn't work and hasn't worked any time he has tried it. Take Rotherham away and 5 at the back, it was a shambles, like watching uncoached kids. Not everything will go to plan but he can't take credit for changing things and not some of the responsibility for needing to.

With a lack of investment from the board, leaving us short on players, then the run of injuries, then Carey’s suspension, now Dougalls suspension, Gabriel’s injury, Husband injury, Keshi 2nd injury. I think he’s had it extremely tough.

Judge him when he’s had 10 games with a fully (or nearly fully) fit squad.

Injuries are part and parcel of the game, how many games did Critchley have a full squad to pick from last season? Not many I would wager.

If we have to wait for Stewart to play 10 games, we may as well accept relegation now. 😔

Agree. We were saying the same post game.

Kevin Stewart shouldn’t even be at the club. He’s absolutely stealing a wage. He has done since he arrived!
The bloke is falling to pieces…. Not a great advert for veganism.

I do wonder at times quite what the threshold is for being ‘injured’ or ‘fit to play’ these days. I mean Stewart has played an average of around 10 games a season over his entire professional career.

I really like him as a player, but realistically he’s pointless.

In support of your well made point:
On Tuesday, Thommo was again summarising on Lancs radio & before KO he talked about our 3 strikers. He said that he hoped MA had instructed Lavery & Yates to play close to Madine and NOT out wide ...... but that's where they played, resulting in no goals ... again!
I've said this before & I'll say it again; Thommo is an excellent coach / great with players, and he would greatly assist MA.
SS would be wise to employ him as an assistant coach and the sooner the better.
