Approach play

Biggest issue those around me agreed on was the complete lack of urgency and pace. The approach play is so slow the opposition get 11 behind the ball and we haven’t a clue how to break it down.

Even thrown ins we send backwards. We look lethargic and devoid of ideas . Lavery and Beesley look frustrated. If the likes of Weir is a creative player … it’s being drained out of him by the pass pass pass to nowhere boredom.

Yes it’s early days but a lack of decent wingers and an experienced striker to support Lavery is standing out like a sore thumb. Most fans have questioned that for weeks .. but still no movement …

For me the midfield wasn't being used as it should
The general story was pass around the defence then play a hopeful (and often very lacking in quality) long ball. I was generally impressed with how Lavery did given that kind of play really doesn't suit a man of his relatively low height
But where was the build up through the midfield? We seem to have signed centre mid after centre mid to add to those we already had, and play with 3 centre mids, but they are rarely there to take a pass from the defence and drive forward etc...
The throw ins going backwards was driving me mad too. We were going from being in a good attacking position to back with Grimshaw.
My biggest concern is there isn't really a player in the squad that excites me, who I want to be on the ball. And there's nobody I'm pleading with Crutchley to bring off the bench to have an impact. I'm thinking someone like Kaikai, Osayi Samuel, Bowler. I was expecting Dale to come on at some point today, he has shown flashes of being effective going forward
