Assessing the signings so far

Sure. Not disagreeing just commenting in the now.
Yeah, the snippets we've seen of everyone only reinforce the signings tbh.

If I was a scout and had seen what I'd seen before they came here, then seen the extra bits in out shirts, you'd be even more confident of wanting them.

The skill and quality from Morgan the other night was sublime.

The tricky play and confident 1 touch passing from Dembele only adds more excitement to his reputation.

The football intelligence of Rhodes.

There's no guarantees, there never is, each could be rubbish for the next 30 games, unlikely but still.

But what we've seen so far from many has been very positive.

Norburn, Pennington, Morgan, Rhodes, Dembele, Joseph, Weir. There's some quality in there.

Kouassi has the attributes to be a potentially good player and no issue with that gamble.

Oakley-booth I don't know much about.

Some other players for decent back up like O'Donnell and Chapman.
Funny thing is if we'd have signed 2/3 of those players on TDD I doubt there'd have been the fuss there has been!

The recruits look good overall .

Whether they will be enough to secure the results we want time will tell.

Not withstanding injuries it's bit unfair to judge at this juncture when tactics have been negative and compounded by playing players out of their best positions. Hopefully that is a problem that will rectify itself sooner rather than later.

Ok, playing evil's dadvocate. JJ started this thread by naming our good signings.

Norburn, Pennington, Morgan, Rhodes, Dembele, Joseph, Weir.

Three have contributed well, one is starting to, three havent done a huge amount between them.

Kouassi has done well, sooner than expected. Gary Bwyer got excited aboug him the other night. TOB is, well, TOB. A prototype footballer that gets a test run occasionally and then back to the drawing board for another design tweak.

Watching his performances it is clear that Rhodes is like a Rolls Royce at this level. Far superior to any strikers we have had recently in terms of his approach play, positioning and aggression.

Norburn is valuable part of the team, Pennington too. Morgan has been in and out, had some decent involvements and showed some good moments, his free kicks recently have been excellent, Rhodes has been brilliant, Dembele looks class whenever he's been played, it's only really Weir on that list who hasn't yet set the world on fire and hasn't yet shown enough.

Kouassi has shown great promise, although is still young and learning.

Joseph is the 'big money's signing and is highly rated, although obviously we haven't seen him hardly at all yet.

So the point that we've signed some quality, even based off what the club knew before seeing them play for us, is valid and backed up by what we've seen.

I think all of the signings have potential. My thoughts so far"

10/10 - Rhodes - up there with, if not, the best strikers in L1. A game changer for our promotion hopes.

7/10 - Norburn - a good player at this level and exactly what we needed. I do feel he hasn't really clicked in his role and there is more to come though.

7/10 - Pennington - classy player, been in and out, but think he's finding his best form now.

7/10 - Kouassi - a real find, still a rough diamond but has so much potential it is scary. If coached and managed correctly we could have a real star.

7/10 - Dembele - you can see why he is rated as highly as he is. A real box of tricks. Lacks match fitness and we need to find the right system for him.

6/10 - Morgan - has ability and decent set piece delivery but too often goes missing in games and has yet to show real consistency.

6/10 - O'Donnell - has done well when called upon but is a clear number 2 behind Grimmy. Seems a good team player.

4/10 - Weir - not been impressed so far, he was woeful on Tuesday night. The lad did well in L1 last season so hopefully he shows more in the coming months.

NA - Joseph - not seen enough to offer any thoughts as yet. If he lives up to the reported fee, he'll be a big asset when fit.

I was playing devil's advocate but the truth is somewhere in the middle. Only Rhodes has set the world on fire really. Norburn and Pennington are good steady signings for sure and there is loads more to come from Dembele and Kouassi.

Hopefully Weir too, he shone in this division in a relegated team by all accounts last season. Critch isn't getting that from him in this system at all though, I feel sorry for him, creative midfelders seem to flummox our ex Liverpool coach. If you try to program them to function to instructions they seem to malfunction!

Morgan has shown some promise at times but still learning and unsure of his best position and may be suffering from the Critch blind spot too, along with Carey. I doubt Dobbie would be frittering the talent of Weir like this. 🙃

Sort it out, Critchley!

Happy to be proved wrong on Rhodes. Difference I think as has been mentioned many times is a mixture of guys getting used to system and manager realising after a while who is best fitted to system he wants to play and who isn't. Think many of us were a tad too pessimistic early in the season just need to be careful we don't get carried away now. Still long way to go and think we've been lucky with injuries so far how long can it last. Squad depth will be a big thing for all clubs as ever.

Well Carey Weir and Morgan have all fannied about trying to nail the attacking midfield spot that Apter has looked good in when given brief cameos. Two of them new signings!
