Automatic Bans

Pitch invaders at Premier League and English Football League matches will receive an automatic club ban under new measures to tackle fan behaviour.

Concerns were raised about safety at grounds after a number of pitch invasions at the end of last season.
Individuals who carry or use pyrotechnics or smoke bombs will also be banned and identified offenders will be reported to the police.

The Football Association will also implement tougher sanctions for clubs.

It is an offence for fans to enter the pitch "without lawful authority or lawful excuse" under the Football Offences Act 1991 - but offenders have not always been prosecuted.

However, prosecuting offenders will now be the "default response" under the new measures.

The leagues and the FA will:

  • Work with clubs to improve searches of individuals
  • Increase use of sniffer dogs at grounds
  • Work with social media platforms to quickly remove fan-generated videos of illegal behaviour
  • Ask the government to restrict the supply of pyrotechnics and smoke bombs
  • Potentially ban accompanying parents or guardians of children who take part in illegal behaviour
The Premier League, EFL and FA will also work with police forces to "establish a new principle for cases relating to pyrotechnics and smoke bombs".

Premier League clubs agreed new measures to deal with pitch invasions last month following a series of incidents.

No more wee children running on to ask for their hero's shirts then 😥. Well done to those who managed to grab an Everton shirt yesterday (I noted that Pool players kept theirs on, as they'd probably have to pay for a replacement 🤣)

Pathetic post.

The point is to stop EVERYONE from encroaching on the pitch, regardless of age.

Where would you draw the line? A 6 year old, maybe 8, maybe 10, maybe ????. Also some children are much taller than others of the same age. So, should there be a height restriction?

Anyway, quite often players will give their shirts to selected children, or just throw them into the crowd, so "wee children" won't be completely deprived.

I think a ban is enough for going on the pitch, maybe 3 game ban first offenders, then season ban. We don’t want the courts filling with lads who ran on a field. It’s a shame though if we never see an end of season or promotion winning pitch invasion again.

Or head butting an opposing player because yo have just beaten them in the biggest semi in the world and can - it’s about safety -what is it you don’t understand - there is a line you cannot cross

If fans walked onto the pitch like innocent WW1 Tommies going for an over the top saunter it might not be so bed but they don’t they cause trouble

Just go to Millwall - they have about 10% of fans whom you might describe as football fans, average types but the rest shouldn’t be allowed any where nea4 the game

This is the expected response from the football authorities, as their have been a few incidents & it seems to be on the rise. This is what happens when a few yobs just can't behave themselves, everybody becomes tarred with the same brush in some peoples eyes. I do have a little sympathy as if there was a stabbing for example & nothing had been done prior to it happening, there would be consequences.
As for flare throwing I think that stopped in the late 70's, when punk & straight legs came out.

Of course they are football fans
