Ballard

He's a very good player of course, but in terms of balancing the numbers in the squad we probably have plenty of depth at centre back but are light in other areas.

Should never turn down a top, proven and young CB who might be great value - Marv and Keogh are solid (usually) ... Thornily not too bad, Husband better at LB. And anyone can get an injury. How old is he?

He's a London boy and will probably prefer to stay down South if the money is right
Surely that's old hat? As someone who left the area to stand on his own two feet, I'm sure a professional footballer cannot be tied to his mothers apron strings? Think of the house value delta, the benefits of the area, the chance to prove his quality. This north south stuff is so passe.

I thought Ballard was top quality when he was with us and ahead of Marv in many ways. I do think for the price though we would be upgrading a position that's not really in need of upgrading. I'd prefer the money is spent elsewhere as long as we keep Marv and Keogh obviously.

I think we should at least give it a try. Quality player and would improve the team. Depends on whether he wants to move 'up North' again and his wage demands

Ollie Casey goal per games is far superior.
Maybe Lavery will have a word.
Interesting thing in article is they nearly released him on 2 occasions, so suspect the 4 to 5 million is way off

Can't believe we won't make enquiries. Ready made Championship standard with a good future who's already spent an enjoyable period here. Be mad not to.

Too expensive for our project I would have thought unless there was no competition…which of course there will be.

Arsenal sound like they want to put in a buy-back clause in case they make a mistake. Can see him joining someone like Fulham or Brentford.

Feel like the club have given zero indication that they're going to be splashing out over the million mark on any single player. Ballard could be worth 5. Love to see him back here if it were possible.

Would be brilliant, don't think it would be anything like 5 million. By all accounts he did well at Millwall but was injured for a while and didn't stand out enough for 4-5 mill.

I think 1-2 million probably, decent odds we'd be selling him on for 5-10 million in a couple of years as well. Think he'll probably go to Millwall though.

Thorniley, Connolley, Marv, Casey & Keogh.. if you added Ballard to the mix I think it’d just be a little overkill.

You forgot Tharme, and Husband can also cover CB, so with Ballard that'd be 8 with 6 specialist CB's, so we'd need to move out at least 2 of our existing players to bring him in.

Good player, but likely expensive and not what the squad needs.

Do you think Tharme will be anywhere near the first team next season?

It's still valid though, especially in lower leagues.

I'd put money on Accrington having a squad of mainly Northerners.

If we were to some how get Ballard he would be in the starting line up with Marv.

Thorniley is okay but he’s not great. Like others have said if we can use him as part of the CB deal I wouldn’t lose any sleep over not having him in the squad.
