BBC Olympic coverage

Haven’t Disney bought most the UK rights and only sold the min to the BBC, to make sure they are within the law for protected event status?

We have 14 dedicated channels here for live stuff and I am watching the BBC coverage!!

Until you have lived abroad, you will never appreciate how good the BBC and generally UK TV actually is!!!

The only coverage I have seen is the highlights on the news. Just can't get engaged this time around.

The great British public will probably slag the BBC into non or minor existence and then realise why the rest of the world appreciates it more.
Anybody watching the Olympics will probably start with the BBC, then realise how shit it is once they have tried Eurosport and its 2 dedicated channels and several other features with multiple live events via the Red button

The time difference makes it a hard watch for those working in the day as I view all my sport tea time and evening in the main you know who's won everything by then!

The IOC sold the European rights to Discovery. The BBC (and ITV) had to negotiate a deal with Discovery, who will only allow the BBC two live feeds, so they are restricted in what they can cover live.

I think the BBC have been pretty good. Yeah it's all a bit happy clappy and dated seemingly aimed towards non sports fans in middle class England but the hundreds of hours of broadcasting means they miss nothing which is ultimately what it's all about.

Seems an appalling decision to sell the European rights to an American broadcaster. Wonder how that happened 💵💲💲💰💰💸💸💸💵💵💲💲💰💸💸💸?

Most Sports chat gets on my wick. The only Sport that has good presenters, commentators, experts is Speedway. Actually a few in Rugby union are ok. Rest I don't listen.

I’ve actually watched more than I expected since I’ve been ‘working’ at home. I actually think the BBC coverage is decent considering they got a bit shafted by Discovery.

The experts in the studio are decent, Beth Tweddle on the gymnastics and they guy who does the taekwondo are the stand outs so far.

Plus it’s nice to wake up and watch some sport and success stories rather than depressive news/ covid/ brexit chat whilst digging into the coco pops.

I liked the guy ( Aussie) doing the Rugby 7 commentary.
What a great competition with the GB comeback from 21-0 down and Herculean effort by the Argies.
Yeah he is rather excitable isn’t he!!

I’ve never watched 7’s before but it’s a great format. The England v US and South Africa v Argentina games were brilliant.

There is a lot of Olympic coverage over here in the US but the downside is the frequency of the commercial breaks and they obviously tend to favour the events with US competitors. I tend to migrate back to the BBC via i-Player using a VPN although the BBC seem to have cottoned on to this and the stream is not as stable as previously. I don't know why the BBC don't offer a subscription service to ex-pats for BBC i-player content it would be a gold mine.

Totally agree about Beth Tweddle and Lutalo Mohammed in Taikwondo. Both very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

Excellent from Sam Quek this morning about Simone Biles.
Give it to ITV and you'd have Piers Morgan back slamming the Olympics, mental health and having to get up earlier!
