BBC Radio 4 at it again..

To he honest Foot was a right useless **
Admittedly he wasn't the greatest of Labour leaders but he was a proper nice bloke & followed Argyle whenever he could.
I was once at Elm Park on the open terrace with a rat -arsed -paid -up -Labour -Party Everton-supporting mate of mine. He spotted Michael Foot & went up to him to give him a handshake & said ' this is an honour coz I've always wanted to shake Michael Hand's foot,.err I've got that wrong haven't I'..Michael Foot pissed himself laughing.

Michael Foot should never have been leader of the Labour Party. He was not right for the role. He was, however, a very intelligent and honourable man.
and a passionate Plymouth Argyle fan. I wholly disagree with the first part of your post. Like Corbyn he would've built a society from the base up ..just what this country needs.

Far, far more intelligent than Corbyn. A man who should have been treated as the soul of the Labour Party whilst the grubbiness of electioneering was in the hands of others.

Even in the 80s, image was all. He was destroyed for wearing a short wool coat to the Remembrance Day Parade, with the Mail calling it a donkey jacket.

Bear in mind the Mail were huge supporters of Hitler until 1939, whereas Michael Foot was a strong opponent of appeasement.

In other news Mitsubishi entombed just short of 400 British and Australian prisoners of war in a gold mine they were being forced to work in on a Japanese Island by blowing it up, days before the end of WW2 in 1945. Their bodies are still there. Hands up all those who have, or have had, anything made by this company.

How far back do we have to go?

I wasn't referring to his politics. To be a good PM requires an ability to manage factions, to scheme, to manage the media, to get things done that you don't necessarily believe in. I don't believe that Foot had those qualities. Corbyn certainly hasn't.

Michael Foot was an honourble and patriotic gentleman who almsot certainly would have been Prime Minister but for the Faulklands war and a concerted monstering by the press.. The exact same method was used against Corbyn and it worked again. It's like watching Pavlov's dogs "oh that Corbyn is unfit to be PM". Can anyone name me a single policy that would have harmed them? Corbyn would have been far better for Blackpool as a whole and somewhere between 99.9-100% of this board. Why did so many vote against there own self interest? It's no wonder they're ripping us off and dumping raw sewage in the sea with impunity.

It must be embarrassing to be a Tory at the moment, when you see the economy going to ruin, inflation running riot, shortages of essentials, fuel prices rocketing, while the Government does absolutely nothing about any of it.

You voted them in, own it.

The only response is 'At least its not Jeremy Corbyn in charge ', like that actually means anything.

He wasn't so honourable towards his wife when he cheated on her when having an affair with a much younger woman who worked for the BBC.

Corbyn's foreign policy ideas were suspect and damaging to the national interest. This is a major problem for a lot of people and it isn't a media fabrication.
For instance, in the current war in Ukraine he has called for the west to stop helping Ukraine.

Corbyn was well out of his depth. I will say though, he believes in peace and a non-violent approach to international relations. It's easy to sneer but I think he means well. Unfortunately, he also allowed his support for the Palestinians (a worthy cause), to fail in his duty to Jewish Labour. As I say, out of his depth.

Can I remind people that a) Corbyn was never PM and b) he hasn;t been leader of the Labour party for quite some time.

Seems it's the only thing Tories have to cling onto when trying to defend the utter clusterfcuk we're in.

Maybe blame Labour for not being a strong enough opposition next?

Always a bad luck story from Labour as to why their “would be brilliant leader” failed to get elected because of a stupid electorate and right wing Press……surely they should learn from this and “play the game” then?

Superb foreign policy and he has consistently promoted peace, he's one of the few that does. The Ukraine war needs to end and I'm past caring how. So will you be this winter is my guess when the bills come in.
