Beaten by a far better team

The way they moved the ball - fast and accurately, defended amazingly well (albeit fairly easy with our hoof ball) and had the attacking threat - we were second best all night , huffing and puffing , giving the ball away constantly.

It was a tough watch - but this is Blackpool and we will probably beat Bolton on Saturday

We made it very easy for them, pressed too high and not as a unit, so very easy to play out / through us. We had no shape and zero pace or quality in midfield. All down to Critchley.

A far better team that we beat a few days ago, though.
Peterborough fans must be confused that they haven't won one in five and yet go and put that performance in.
However a bit like when we beat some of the teams in this competition early on, you can only play what's in front of you and whilst I agree they were excellent, I don't think we stood in their way of being that.

I agree, on the night we were beaten by a far better team that played very much the way I would like to see Blackpool perform. They were dominant in the air and coped very easily with the long balls we played all night. Their defence showed how to play out from the back and easily broke our pressing play. We were reduced to hitting long balls because we didn’t have the pace and drive to create the pace and drive to make the space to play a passing game. Randall was exceptional for Peterborough and he was well supported by quick forwards who retained the ball when it was played forward to them.

Our best players were Ekpetita and the keeper. The rest of the team looked a couple of yards slower then the Posh players and we lacked the leadership on the pitch to change the pattern of the game while it was in progress. To be honest, this is where the Blackpool squad is at the moment and against a good team, on a better playing surface that Peterborough’s, we were not quick enough. We haven’t got a midfield players who is sharp enough to close down effectively and the couple of players we have with pace don’t read the game well enough to get constantly involved and boss the match like Randall, Mason-Clarke, Burrows and their centre halves did.

I don’t think the tactical set up is the man problem. Our lack of pace, lack of a creative and competitive mid-field and defenders who have always prone to a mistake is down to player recruitment. Some of the things we are lacking cannot be coached but come from within. At the moment we are a slightly above average League One team aspiring to be more. Good players find ways to win no matter who they are playing against or what system they adopt.

Perhaps asking the question why don’t we find and recruit players like Randall, Mason-Clarke et al is more important than the constant call to change managers or formation. This season only Rhodes has consistently influenced games positively for us. I am aware that developing your own players who do this needs patience but there are a few teams around doing this consistently.

All my own opinion, of course

One manger out thinking another manger , critchley doesn’t have a plan b
I do think it’s the set up and tactical , but I do agree it is lack of pace , and creativity in midfield has hampered pool all season
I said before and will say it again on 2 issues , first time under critchley he played 433 and we got promoted, with ease really
Second is , critchley seems scared to lose , rather than win more , very defensive this pool team
Seems to set up not to lose than win , and you can tell certain players don’t like the system

On that performance they are the best team I’ve seen all season.
Strange though how they can’t string a run of wins together.

I have to agree.

As good as they were on the ball we weren't set up right to deal with it.

If you do press then press effectively or if you think it's not worth doing that it might have been worth sitting back a bit and pressing from a certain point. When we do get ot there's a bit more space in behind.

Then when we change later on in the game with some better players coming on, we've worn them down a bit and can press higher if needed with the pace of Dembele and CJ etc.

Whatever the correct way was, that wasn't it and I'm not a top coach so it's not my job to figure it out.
