At first glance it's really not that glamorous of an appointment at all, but when you take a step back you can see why the board would make such an appointment.

Appleton promised 4-3-3 attacking, fluid football. We maybe got 3-4 games of that while the rest have been turgid, uninspiring with little chance creation.

Appleton failed to implement that attacking brand and most other managers would too. Who would you bring in, Liam Manning? Mark Warburton? Both notorious for taking time to bed their ideas in as is any manager hoping to play that way.

We simply don't have time if we're serious about survival to appoint someone who is going to play "pretty".

McCarthy is a dinosaur, yes, but everywhere he has been (minus APOEL) he has had success, even if his tenures inevitably ended in failure.

At Cardiff, he started (under similar circumstances to where we are now i.e. January appointment) with a 6 game winning streak that almost took them to the Playoffs.

At Ipswich, he took them to the Playoffs and had them at worst a mid table side.

Yes, he doesn't fit the mold of what type of manager we have wanted to bring in, but we need results now.

Big Mick has been out of the game for almost two years now and the fact that he wants a crack at us despite being in a mid season relegation fight just shows how desperate he is to get back into the game. I believe he'll be fired up for the job and wouldn't be taking the job as just one last pay check.

His career win rate (which has been VERY consistent at this level) is 38.5% with a draw rate of 27%.

We have 19 matches left. If he replicates that then that will leave us with 7 win 5 draws and 7 losses, which is 26 points which would put us at 52 points which is exactly what we need for survival.

Believe in Big Mick and back him.

I don't really get the negativity, I don't believe we have ever (in my time at least) appointed a manager with a comparable resume. Hes managed at the world cup, he's gotten teams promoted from this division and steadied the ship at clubs that were in our position and he has the "big personality" we've been apparently clamouring for.

I'm actually impressed he's up for this type of challenge and think the board have shown a *bit* of ambition in making this change, I was worried we were gonna end up with Grant Mccann or a young league one assistant.

Let's get behind him and the team and keep ourselves in this league.

I’m trying to now see the logic in it, does kind of make sense as we couldn’t be throwing an Eric Ramsey type in to this situation.

If since the Wigan game, we’ve been making a list to take over and we’ve ended up here I’m not going to lie it’s a bit of a red flag for the competence of the board & makes a mockery of Ben’s planning and process bullshit.

However, maybe it was hope Apples would come good and then act after the fan backlash and bring in someone sharpish & this is the best option given the shit we are in.

Looking forward to hearing what Mick has to say and if Sadler has a few words to add to it. I’m guessing Mansford will be mute again to save himself 👍🏼

Can’t wait for the team selection. Intrigued at how this pans out.

Can you explain for me exactly what the red flags are around a successful manager at this level and Premier League level are?

64 year old. Brought in Bowler and Rogers. Style of play. Losing streak at Cardiff.

Bens Bullshit on process and planning.
Cardiff is such a terrible comparison. Gone through about 3 managers since and they have all done the same thing.

Whats his style of play?

I’m judging it off Cardiff to be fair and reputation.

Strong, physical, tough to beat.

We’ve not got many players to fit into it, but he’ll adapt I’m sure.

But I’m looking forward to seeing what’s going to happen. We had to change the Manager. So let’s see what Big Mick is about.

All unemployed managers (who are, let's be honest, the only ones we could realistically attract with championship experience at this point in the season at very short notice) end their jobs with a losing streak....otherwise they wouldn't be unemployed. We need to look at the bigger picture here.
Short term, keep us up, fine. Long term we need to be looking at someone different I think.

Strange appointment, not sure we have the players to play his style of football BUT 100% behind him if he comes.

His win rate %age is currently 38.56 across his career, if this holds true then it's gonna be very high tight to get to 50 pts+

Mick mcarthy might be a sensible choice till end of season
He knows how not to lose games
Won’t be pretty but we are not in a position to be fussy
Survival is what main and only objective

A strong candidate to make an immediate impact and make relegation less likely. Right man for the predicament we are in I believe. If he keeps is up job done and he’s off in the summer. I don’t see many other candidates out there within our reach who you’d have more confidence to deliver that

So who did we actually want? All I've heard on this board since Appleton was potted is who we don't want.

McCarthy- He's shit
Wilder - Shit
Ramsay - Inexperienced
Dyche - No chance
Cowleys - Shit
Warnock - Wanker
Liam Manning - Another one who's shit (apparently)

So who would we all actually approve of? If we go for someone experienced, they will have likely been sacked by someone after a bad run, does that make them shit?
If we go for someone without experience at this level are we just making the Appleton mistake all over again.

I wouldn't see Mick McCarthy as a long term appointment but maybe, just maybe he could be the key to our survival, I'll take that all day long.

When did we become such moaning, whinging bastards!

It's irrelevant as no fcuker knows who the club targeted or who actually wanted the job

I will support the new Manager whoever the Board appoint, just as I supported Appleton.

The Blackpool players need our support now more than any other part of this season.

We will probably need 25 points from the remaining 19 games to avoid relegation. This is going to be a big challenge for any new Manager coming in so late in the season with a squad of players he doesn’t know. Yes he will watch loads of videos but that is no substitute for being with the players on the training ground and seeing them perform on a match day. The new Manager has to hit the ground running he doesn’t have 3 or 4 games to get his feet under the table, lose the 6 pointer to Huddersfield on Sat and the challenge gets a lot tougher.

Personally I still think Appleton represented the best chance we had of avoiding relegation this season, he knew the players and they were still working hard and playing for him, 4 new players had arrived in Jan and I would have given him the whole season. I appreciate my opinion won’t be popular with the majority on here and we could get the new Manager bounce and upturn in results which fully justifies this late decision.

Whatever happens at the end of this season, the BFC Board must learn the lessons from the shambles we have all witnessed many of which were down to recruitment e.g. appointment of Appleton and the summer transfer window.

I get that Phil and to an extent our opinions are all irrelevant as we have little or no say in the way things are done.

I was just wondering who would have been welcomed with open arms when everyone mentioned seemed not wanted?

I think we are going to have to write this season off as a complete clusterfuck and pray that we somehow manage to stay up.

Always get common sense from you

Apart from Madine, who fits the bill? We have a squad of technical players who don't fit the style of play McCarthy has used in the past.

Maybe he's had a Damascene moment while unemployed but I very much doubt it.

If we’re solid, I think we’ve got more than enough talent to hurt teams.

He’s a vastly experienced manager with a good track record at this level. He also comes across like a good bloke who can get players playing for him.

He’ll command respect immediately and keep things simple, I wonder if our squad needs a bit of that.

Why not? As it stands now we’re going down anyway.

I remember when Holloway was appointed. There was a lot of negativity. He took Leicester down a couple of years earlier and was on a hiatus. The rest is history. Not saying that will happen here but there has been many cases where a manager was appointed the fans didn’t really want and then went on to be successful

Paul Heckingbottom was touted to take over us wasnt he and we were like ‘god no’ but he ended up at Sheffield Utd. Done alright ain’t he. I’m not sure Sheff Utd fans wanted him when he took over. Sometimes appointments can surprise you.
