Bercow Joins Labour Party

I remember he used to get pelters because his wife was a Labour Party member, maybe he has finally toed the line!

He will be forever hated by the Tories for daring to stand up for the rights of Parliament in the face of a Government hell bent on doing what it wanted outside the democratic process. He may or may not have been an unpleasant character, but he was the lone powerful voice stopping rule by decree.

Problem is that description of the Conservative party is seen as a good thing by many!

He was hell bent on trying to stop Brexit. Broke every rule, was probably the worst speaker ever. Lone voice is not something that should ever be attributed to a speaker.

He didn't break any rules, he enforced them, as proven in court.

Parliamentary democracy is so inconvenient, isn't it?

I guess you characterise anyone who disagrees with you as Left Wing? The Supreme Court, with all their privileged backgrounds, left wing ??

The new speaker, a top bloke, has not yet had to stand up to the Government trying to bypass parliament. Let's see how he does when it happens. And it will happen. The current Government sees parliamentary Scrutiny as something to be ignored or reviled.

I should have used the term Liberal, not left wing.

Arrogant, yes. Snobbish, yes. But, he did a lot to give Parliament a voice against a Government that tried to overrule it.
Don't forget, Brexit was sold as regaining control. A Government that wants to rule without Parliamentary authority is not about regaining control. It's authoritarian. Bercow understood that and thank goodness he did.
