Best Acting Performance Ever?

Definitely up there as one of the very best but there's a couple of others I'd consider:-
Jack Nicholson as Nathan Jessup in A Few Good Men
Tommy Lee Jones as Hayes Hodges in Rules Of Engagement
Denzel Washington as Nathaniel Sterling in Courage Under Fire

Beat me to it with Jack Nicholson, the court room scene was excellent.

Him and Al Pacino (Godfather) came to mind when I saw the o/p
For comedy actor, Peter Sellers as Clouseau.

Jack Palance the heroic sergeant in Attack ! A movie set in WW2 that was banned in the USA for years because it depicted an American officer showing cowardice in a battle situation.Palance gives a tour de force performance that is absolutely mesmerising.

In Film or TV….

There is no one answer but I’m going for Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday in Tombstone 1993 …..utterly brilliant
Underrated imo - good shout.

There’s a lot of competition for this:

Hanks - Forrest Gump, Philadelphia
Pacino - Godfather 1&2
Pacino / de Niro - Heat (and nice bit by yr man Val!)
Phoenix - Joker
Mcconnaughy (?) - True Detective, Interstellar
Jane Horrocks - little voice

My vote goes to Heath Ledger’s Joker in the Dark Knight

Wow - saw this in training and forgot it completely. Good shout

Ron Moody as Fagin in Oliver
Daniel Day Lewis in My Left Foot
And…any role Oliver Reed played..as he could do no wrong in my eyes! 😍

I don't know the chaps name but it was a TV drama about the tragic murder of Joanna Yeates in Bristol.

The whole country decided it was the boyfriend who did it but after he was eliminated the police used the aged old method of pulling in the most eccentric person in the vicinity and then trying to prove that it was him, so they pulled in the landlord.

In real life he was called Chris Jefferies but the chap who played him was absolutely brilliant, he was more like Chris Jefferies than Chris Jefferies himself.

I think Michael Sheen was also brilliant when playing a number of characters, he's played Cloughie, Blair and Tarrant all superbly.

None of the above will be the best acting performances ever but I was bored and just thought I'd add my tuppence worth.

Jack Nicholson - One flew over the cuckoos nest
Dustin Hoffmann - Midnight Cowboy & Rainman
Robert De Niro - Goodfellas and Raging Bull
Owen Oyston - Crown Court and also “I’ve been a fan since the age of two”
