I’m one of the first to praise the club and I defend a lot of what they do even when widely criticised by others. But the clubs comms and marketing team have truly been poor, especially these last few days.
Don’t drop a new app, focused on news and content and then not follow it up with decent news and content.
It’s basic stuff.
 
You're absolutely right, in this brave new digital world.

There was a lot to be said for the old world though. And I kind of like the fact that the club isn't buckling to pressure, and just keeping schtum. It's possibly wise too, focus on doing the important stuff well and not fret about the frothy stuff. The perpetual social media hamster wheel. Just fuck it off completely. 🤣

You don’t release the app until you have some content and some decent news to get people actually using it. You don’t see Netflix or Disney opening up a streaming platform with only 2 shows, one of which is a 2 minute long documentary on how plastic bags are made. It’s just really simple, basic stuff they’re getting wrong. And it’s not like they’re harming themselves, they’re just plainly missing the opportunity to take advantage of the good news and positive steps they are actually taking.

Probably just wanted to get it out there, there was a few small pieces of news came up.

Tbf Netflix was crap at first. 😏

‘Just get it out there’ is the problem though. It’s a good product. There’s a clear audience for it. But if you want people using it you need them to not only download it out of curiosity and because it’s available but you also need to get then using it, and you need to develop the habit of using it so it becomes important to them. The way to do that is to ensure you have a steady stream of news and content available on the platform - given we know there will ultimately be signings, a new kit etc and knowing the club could easily create a few more interviews or provide some more insight into the goings on at the club it’s disappointing there’s little new content been made available or that the app hasn’t been released alongside some major new news.
It’s a missed opportunity.

Maybe but the news and you get a little notification in the bar, people will get used to using and and they'll push it more.

Maybe not the ideal launch with a stream of info but had they not announced the app there'd be even less news to put out there during ST sales time and keep the club in people's minds.

It's an APP that gives you easy access to buying tickets, tangerine TV, club shop - plus news when there is any comes through without having to go through Google etc. Don't see why they need news to drop the app when it's basically just a replica of the website - like any other APP for quick access - Amazon app, eBay App.

Yep its an all under 1 roof app, every time some news is out you get that notification, can do tickets etc, ttv. Its about ease of use and when news does drop the club can get users straight away as its there in your notification bar.

This will get them closer to the fans.

I don't think it's bad, you put it out there, it's had some ttv stuff, normal news, its meant to replace using the site and have everything there.

Not sure there's anything exclusive the app does that the site doesn't?

It's meant for convenience and so fans are instantly notified about news. Also it's better for phone users.
