Bid for Cameron Brannagan

"Brannagan came through the ranks at Liverpool and made three league appearances for the club during the 2016-17 campaign.

The centre-midfielder has been a permanent fixture at The U’s ever since and has notched 16 goals in 150 appearances.

He was named Oxford’s Player’s Player of the Season for the 2018-19 season.

"Brannagan has two years remaining on his contract at Oxford after he penned a two-year extension last summer.

Apparently they value him at £2 million. They turned down 850k from Millwall

Oxford won't let him go without a fight and will they accept a six figure fee? Only 25 years old and 2 years left on his contract.

We should've used Thorniley as a lure!

We should have kept Thorniley! A much better player than Keogh.

Brannagan would be a great addition though. Preston were after him pre Play Offs.
I hear you, but ultimately not big enough, probably. For central defence in this league.

If they rate him at 2M and already turned down 850k then it’s a complete waste of time even talking about it.
Sounds like it, it if we have made a bid, we must think we’re in with a chance and already know their valuation and the £850k bid, so we can hope.

When people say he’s not worth that or this, are any players worth what they go for? I think Grealish is quality but he’s not worth 100m. I thought Chris Malkin was shit and he cost £250,000.

It’s the market, if we want him and have it lets just fuckin do it.

Correct mate

Everything has a price in this world and things are only worth what someone is willing to pay

Get the deal done ✔

Genuinely I’ve thought before the season started I’d love us to sign Brannagan. He signed for Oxford as a number 10 and did well there, creates, scores goals likes a hit from range. Then they got an injury to their defensive midfielder midway through last season and dropped Brannagan back to a deep lying playmaker and it coincided with their change in form. He is literally the player we are crying out for, someone to collect the ball from the defence and be the link between defence and attack. I genuinely believe this would be a brilliant signing.

If Thorniley is in the last year of his contract Oxford can just let the lian run and sign him for nowt next summer. So we may have cocked up a bit.

It seems unlikely to me, can't see us going over £1m, but Critch must know the player well. He may be keen to come.

Would he be a better signing than extending King Kenny's contract?
No knowledge just asking

Exactly the type of player we should have targeted immediately after promotion. The issue we may find now is using the Championship bargaining chip, whilst I still have every confidence, the league table doesn't look good. With Wintle and Sterling sorted, a couple of 'big' signings really would provide a massive boost.

Oxford are off to a flyer in League 1 and have aspirations of Championship football themselves next season. Would be very surprised if this happens.

Did I read somewhere that SS has now moved back to UK and Oxfordshire? If so, maybe he knows what the financial position is at Oxford and is pushing a deal through the owners?? No idea if true - just a theory (and maybe wishful thinking to get this player😳)

Maybe Thorniley a bit of money + CJ on a loan to sweeten the deal and it could help us both if he gets back to his best

We have a year’s option at the end of this season so can activate that if necessary.
Good job we gave him such a long contract. 🤣

We’ve balked at £1m for Dale and 900k for JG.

Can’t see us breaking the bank all of a sudden for CB.

These are of course all opening gambits, to be honestly if this bid did it really happened it could just be us lighting a fire under Crewe.

Not sure I understand why we’re after another central player we have a lot of players for 2 positions. A competent winger seems like it’s going to be needed.
