Billy would have been 68 today

Hard to believe he was only 49 when he died and less than a month from his 50th.

R.I.P. King Billy.
 
Loved Billy he epitomised to me the passion football can generate, I have always looked on him as a Bill Shankly type manager.
RIP King Billy you will never be forgotten by the fan's that were privileged too know you.
 
Was well loved by all the fans.
I ran the London marathon in 2000 ran past the great man,I called out Biilly Ayre's tangerine army.
That put the icing on the cake that day when he replied with both thumbs up.
Legend, went far to young.😢
 
RIP Billy, a great all round guy and Pool legend! Robbed of a long life by such a cruel disease.
 
That picture in the OP, if I recall correctly, was taken at Hartlepool after a 2-1 win, I think. The passion he had for us as a club and a town is summed up right there.

I honour his memory with my profile pic because he cared and he will al be remembered for his Leadership and honesty; if only there were more people like him in football!
