Bishop - off

Yeah either we're in for someone else, it's a medical issue or MA has suddenly decided he likes what we have.

Hopefully the former, though both that and the latter seem unlikely.

The plot thickens…tabloids are reporting that Blackpool have another striker lined up and were using Bishop as a pawn to accelerate the transfer of the the other player.

If true, that is $hithousery of the highest order."

Can't find any tabloid article reporting this, anyone else?

It’s in Billy’s Weekly Liar. Another story they are running is Hitler working as a bog cleaner at Preston bus station.😮

Maybe Appleton was so impressed with our first half performance last night, he decided we didn’t need another striker.🤣🤣

First thing that crossed my mind on reading this was Leeds pulling out of a deal for Asa Hartford (heart issue) and likewise Liverpool for Frank Worthington (blood pressure). Could be something else, of course.

The Worthington pull out was weird as blood pressure is controllable by medication and has been for many decades.

Leaking news of a bid to force a transfer is one thing, agreeing fees and wages with club and player - pretty sure Accy Stanley would let the footy world know if that was true.

Good. The whole thing sounded speculative to me.

If he was a long-term target we would have been in at the beginning not jumping aboard at the last moment. We're not short of forwards and there are far more pressing positions that need sorting.

Maybe we've had to bite the bullet with Shamrock Rovers and decided we prefer to spend £500k on their full-back?

It won't affect Bishop much other than he'll have to go and live down South. They were keen on him this time yesterday so nothing will have changed unless he has actually failed the medical.

We need a winger (Rogers?) and two full-backs.

But I'll take Simms if he's available.

I hope this is true 🤣🤣🤣

9 times out of 10 it's about money. Not overly concerned about Bishop he would be a gamble at 500K. We have had our fingers burnt before with Nuttall and Lubala for differing reasons. If it was a choice between Bishop and Dobbin I would go for Dobbin despite his injury record.

EXCLUSIVE: The Colby Bishop transfer saga has taken another twist - Blackpool’s move for the striker is now OFF. A fee and personal terms had been agreed, but The Gazette understands the Seasiders have decided not to pursue the move.

That will piss Pompey Off!
Any chance you can edit the title of this thread to Bishop bashed?

It would just appeal to my juvenile sense of humour.

Their site is worse than ours for pure speculation.
I hope it's true though, especially if it's Simms.

Who is Dobbin?

All the signs to me are the lad failed his medical, of course could be anything but that's what it looks like

I think it's more likely that someone tried to change the terms of the deal at the last minute, the club isn't having it so "the deal is off", or more likely the deal will be back on once the parties agree to stick to what was originally negotiated.

Possible that we were interested in a.player but couldn't quite make the deal happen so we went after Bishop with a genuine view to signing him. This has made the people involved in the original deal come back to us and we have now secured the original target.
That wouldn't be using Bishop it would just be unfortunate for him, I personally wouldn't like to think we strung him along to make another deal happen, sounds unlikely and is not the right way for the club to conduct itself.
That said he probably just failed the medical.

The deal was done, fee and personal terms agreed ...... it wasn't that 😉

Ellis (The) Simms:
@_ellissimms
Sunlun links and rumoured £500k bid from Millwall. Expect to join a Champ side but is exactly what we need. Promising goal scorer worth the investment. Impressed at Blackpool and Hearts after making PL2 look like a video game.

More speculation about Simms, but are we interested?
We can match the bid but can we match the wages? Millwall seem on a par with us but may be able to push the boat out a bit more to secure the deal. Geography comes into it again, especially if Simms is happy in the North West.

Quite possible that personal terms were agreed only for his agent to try to slip in a release clause at the last minute, or the fee agreed only for Stanley to ask for a sell-on percentage.

Until the ink is dry, nothing is agreed.

Certainly a weird situation with Bishop, nothing from the club, nothing from the press, nothing from anyone ITK. One minute it's a done deal, we've beaten Portsmouth to, on the face of it, a decent signing, the next it's off and tumbleweed.

The lack of information seems to point to an issue with the medical side of things?

A really strange one this. I can't make sense of it 🤷‍♂️ I wonder what really happened 🤔 Just hope there was another deal that came up which would be a better option to Bishop and that's why things changed.

The middle sentence is the important part ,'If true'.
