Bit more Calderwood discussion?

So why do we think he was brought in? Was it always planned that Critchley would have someone alongside him? Who was the bloke who was supposedly his number two and what’s happened to him? How do we think Critchley and Calderwood will work together?

As someone pointed out, Grayson had Thommo and Parkes working with him, so why not Garrity and Calderwood with Critchley? They can work it out between themselves, hopefully.

Although Critch is exceptionally well qualified and has worked with some of the best young players with Liverpool he is inexperienced in the cut and thrust of League 1. I doubt if he has ever come up against the likes of Steve Evans and the Gillingham side. Managers and players at League 1 level don't necessarily play by the rule book and not necessarily interested in playing football that is pleasing on the eye!! Useful to have a man on board whose got lots of experience and achieved at this level. Hope it works out for them and us!!

Common sense really. If something isn’t working, surely the right thing to do is to take steps to fix the problem. Not rocket science. I would suggest bringing in CC is a very good move and the players can only benefit from this. Onwards and upwards...

Following on from the point about Steve Evans, we seem to have been on the wrong end of a few decisions this season and you wonder if the lack of experience on our bench makes it easier for the officials to ‘side’ with the likes of Evans etc on the close calls. Perhaps having CC there may even things up a bit in this department and give the officials a bit more to think about.

I'm really happy that CC is on board. A couple of things occur to me.

Bringing in someone like that, in a full time capacity rather than just someone NC can contact if he needed to, it doesn't happen in 5 minutes. There's things to sort out.

Was it Friday morning it got announced on here? So likely already actually sorted the night before. Following on from Tuesday I can't believe that everything was sorted in under two days.

So, was it in mind to bring in someone before Tuesday? Probably. Was NC aware it was going to happen, yes almost certainly, was he happy about it, haven't a clue only he knows that. Was he given a choice, again don't know but was he involved in the identification of CC?

And from the other side, is CC fully aware of what NC is trying to do style wise and ready to go with it, accepting that at present it needs some tweaking to get a better result from it. I don't know anything about CCs previous playing style, but if he tweaks too far and it ends up a mile away from what Critch has in mind, then Critch won't be around long after even if results improve.

So I do hope NC and CC had a good long chat beforehand about what's trying to happen. In my best imagination, I hope that Critch, having requested/accepted/been told whatever, that he needed someone else alongside him, said OK I've got the bloke in mind. Sadly I doubt that's the case, it'll be Mansford, but as long as they've discussed openly what it's about and all are happy, then so am I.

I imagine Gerrity was overjoyed at the appointment of Coach Calders. Comparing him to the role of Thommo during the Grayson/Parkes era is really quite hopeful. I fully expect the club to slip out a mutual consent departure announcement within a respectable time frame.

Gazette just released an article with more on this.

The Gazette understands Calderwood was Critchley’s appointment and received the full backing of the club.
“That was always the plan, we’ve always wanted that extra voice,” Critchley said of Calderwood’s arrival.
“I’m delighted Colin has decided to join us, you’ve only got to look at his experience as both a player, a manager and as an assistant manager too.
“Having spoken to Colin, I think he’ll complement our existing group of staff and I think he’ll be a massive help to myself, the staff and the group of players moving forward.”

That will shoot down a few conspiracy theories on here 😃

Take his word for it as there's no contract length details announced, just that he's here. Calderwood accepted and was announced in a job back at Northampton in their new football academy on 12th October. So unless he's on double bubble temping and splitting his time between two league rival clubs it's something that's just come up as a reaction to the coaches struggling to get to grips here. As when Dunn left they were confident they could go it alone.

Probably coincidental that he shares the same agent as a few of our other summer signings.

I’m sure the board have half panicked at the results from the first lot of games so far an feel they had to act an do something.

I’m pretty sure if we had of been further up the table near the top then this appointment wouldn’t of happened. I personally think it’s a matter of no1 keeping the seat warm for no2. Calderwood is probably thinking he will get a crack at the job if critchley gets the boot in the coming weeks.

Its great Calderwood is on board.

Doesn't matter what the reason is its a clear indication SS is prepared to spend whats necessary to get us up the league and hopefully promoted.

Or at the very least not drop out of it.

Hopefully he can be the yin to Critchley's yang.
Is Coach Gerrity the dodgy wavy line down the middle? You never know whether the line is white or black and which side it’s really on.

1) How are you sure

2) How are you pretty sure

3) Don’t drink bleach

Opinions pal, it obviously wasn’t going to plan with the existing coaching staff was it ?
I’d be suprised if we lost the next few calderwood would get put in caretaker if we ditched critch then go from there.

Whether he asked for him or not, I think the move will be beneficial and take some weight off his shoulders.
It was so bleedin' obvious that it was needed.

If NC has waited so long (given CC took a NT job), then he's an idiot.

If BM took so long to 'impose' CC, then he's an idiot.

There can be NO downside to this move in the short to medium term.

The point about the same agent being used is a bit worrying. Smacks a little bit of lazy recruitment approach

Interesting I heard Chis and Brett say that Garrity was also in the technical area - wonder how that works with a pecking order?!
