Blackpool and COVID

Just been reading an IFS report on the impact of COVID 19 on British towns. Triple whammy for Blackpool which comes out as most at risk nationally , because of existing deprivation, economy based on tourism and being in the North.

This isn't the danger of catching the virus, it's the economic impact. A lost season, in a socially deprived area already suffering means that the end of furlough in October could be the final straw.

Obviously, none of us want this, but it's all stacked against. Let's hope the back end of the season, linked to calls for staycation might give some relief to what are hard pressed businesses.

Additional information. 12 of the top 20 are coastal resorts. It's not all in the North. Slough has had a hammering because of the dependency on Heathrow.
