Blackpool early 1960's

Really really busy but also clean!
No chip papers, toffee wrappers etc.
A bustling, busy town that people just loved to visit.

It all went downhill in the early 70’s when we joined the EEC .Oh if you think Brexit is bad it was much worse from the day we stupidly joined up to that rotten organisation. Now after leaving even dossy Central Drive is getting a much needed makeover especially now Recidicko’s mum’s massage parlour has been demolished..😜

🙄 weren’t you born in the early 70’s. I’m just trying to get to the bottom of the decline in standards 🤪

Different times but nevertheless for those people great ones no doubt ….whilst I know our stadium couldn’t exist in its’ current form I for one lament the day they closed Central Station and decided Blackpool North was the future…it wasn’t.

Must be all the money you're spending there. 😉

Yes, seen that before. Lots of money came into Blackpool in those days with people staying for a week or two. The cheap Mediterranean holidays came along in the 1970s and sucked out much of that trade and income, leading to overnight 'hen party' stays and much reduced income. No wonder half of the town looks run down and shabby. Not helped by the complete lack of a strategy by the local council or successive governments to diversify or regenerate these traditional seaside resorts.

Programme on Channel 5 tomorrow called the Winter of 63 - temperatures down to -22 .. presumably saw our fixtures decimated?

Yes Hoppo.it caused havoc and the pools panel was started because of it ,there is an iconic photo of Jimmy Armfield & Tony Waiter's skating on a frozen Bloomfield Road ,
