Blackpool FC Women

No idea whether this has been discussed on here.

After looking at the Arsenal/Tottenham fixture this weekend and with a proper integrated BFC women's team (not the Community Trust's arms length teams) and they played at Bloomfield Road what do you think the attendance would be?

On a par with the BSM early rounds or higher?

Didn't I read that for some reason they want to stay separate from BFC? Whilst at the same they play in our colours & I think BFC supply their kits.
Unless the team integrates with the club and manages to reach the top flight, where the star players would appear at Bloomfield Road, I can't see there being more than a couple of hundred attending.
I would like to see the BFC women's team develop and grow, as an integral part of BFC.

AFC Fylde women’s team are miles ahead of the Blackpool women’s team which is quite surprising trally.
They’ve been going since 1971 (then called the Duke of York) part of Preston FC back in the days and we’re founder members of the national women’s league northwest.
In 2016 they dropped the affiliation with PNE and became AFC Fylde and following a brief spell away they returned to play their home games at AFC Fylde old ground on the Warton-Wrea Green road at Kellamergh park.

On another note Fleetwood town ladies (Fleetwood wrens) play in league one of the woman’s football league.
To date over 52,000 women/girls have passed through the academy since 2013.

Basically friends and family

52000; I wonder how many have made it to a decent level.

That's some numbers.

I would like to see women's football except internationals taken off the TV. Then we could watch something more entertaining and the city clubs would not be so keen in paying the wages ,giving a more level playing field for clubs like ours.

None of the above.

What does 'pass through' mean?

I don't believe that 5200 female players each year are playing at Fleetwood. That's 500 completely different teams.

The entire female population of the Fylde, Blackpool and Wyre is about 175,000, and the median age is about 55. I don't think that nearly a third of all females in our local area have played at their academy!

So It's not actually AFC Fylde Women at all then is it? It's a very well established Women's Team that AFC has latched on to.

If you read what I actually said I said almost 52,000 have passed through the Academy since it opened in 2013 so that figure is in 11 years not every year. 🙄

No different than quite a few other teams if you want me to name them two in particular play in league 2 today so it’s not just about Women's football is it or is it just you have a gripe with the Fylde women’s team?

Yeah, okay, so you read what I said.

You said 52000 people a year through the academy. Over ten years, that's 5200 a year. Which is clearly nonsense.

Eh?
You clearly can’t read so I’ll leave it there. 🙄
No, I really want to understand.

You said that between 2013, and now (so about 10.25 years later), that 52,000 players had passed through their academy.

If you divide 52,000 by 10 (let's use round numbers to keep it simple), that's 5200 players per year.

I don't see how that is possible. Your numbers must be wrong. Can you explain how Fleetwood are passing that many ladies through their academy?

As I said in my previous reply, the population of the local area just doesn't support that number. I'm occasionally involved with the Arsenal WSL academy: they graduate about 25 players per year.

If you have an issue with the figures I’d suggest you contact Fleetwood town Academy.

Ah, I see.

The community trust isn't their academy. A worthwhile programme, but not the same thing.

No need to accuse me of not being able to read, eh? 😜

I just think it's a bit off to start suggesting that Blackpool Women's Team is miles behind AFC Fylde, when AFC Fylde has essentially just latched on to a well established team. I mean the Women's Team we are talking about was established a good few decades before AFC Fylde even existed. So It's hardly a product of AFC Fylde's efforts or endeavour.

If you have an issue with the figures I’d suggest you contact Fleetwood town Academy.
What is that article referring to exactly?

It reads to me as though the 52,000 figure relates to the numbers who have passed through the entire scheme (i.e. Across the 88 Clubs mentioned) as opposed to 52,000 having been involved with Fleetwood Wrens (which as the other poster said, would be pretty ridiculous)

There are no local girls academies. The only ones are Man U and Liverpool that I know of. Blackpool have started an ETC (you'll see it advertised in Bloomfield Road) which is similar concept to an academy (exceptional talent pathway). Fleetwood and the like are simply grassroots.

I would go and watch a decent women's team with my daughter. Female participation in football has doubled in the last couple of years and we have one of the best junior leagues around (PDPL). The current Blackpool team are low ability and the whole setup would need a good deal of investment to get interest - they currently play their home matches at Norcross!
