Blackpool Festival 1975 at Bloomfield Rd- Steeleye Span etc

Thats a great line up for the mid 70's Roy Harper Kevin Coyne with Anthony H. Wilson too! Incidentally did anyone on here go to the gig Roy Harper played with Jimmy Page at a hotel in St.Annes when they were both recording in Lytham?

I went to the gig. Also saw a cricket match at Bloomfield Rd. No idea who was playing but I'm sure there was a test player or two there.

No, but I did go to some kind of event at Bloomfield Rd featuring motor cyclists riding through fire and high divers doing somersaults into pools. I'd often thought I'd dreamt it, but then a picture surfaced either on Twitter or the old site a couple of years ago. So it did happen!

That would've been my first visit to Bloomfield Rd, probably 1975 ??

Love the idea of getting a ticket by sending a Stamped Addressed Envelope.
Not sure I'd trust it though - I bet the gig was full of posties

It did happen, as my late dad organized it

Tell me more Bispham, I was very young and all I remember was sitting in the West Stand and seeing the divers jumping from what seemed like a serious height into narrow but deep pools.

Hold on to your £2.10 and don't send anything to that character. Came across him from the late 80s a quick Google will fill you in on another story.

The stage was set up in front of the Kop as this was the only stand open and if memory serves me right (hazy days then 🤪), there weren’t too many people there.

Seem to remember an article about this on the original VFTT fanzine, a good (Jesus!) 25+ years ago. Back then the mid-70s seemed like the unbelievably distant past ... in fact it was >20 years after the event!

Would love to hear more about the motorbike/diving event!

Sorry to be so late replying.

My late dad became Commercial Manager at BFC and was also the match day announcer. He was involved in a fair few ventures including speedway, stock cars etc at various venues including Workington, Ellesmere Port, Halifax and so on. They would host these Daredevil Stunt Shows and he brought one to Bloomfield Road.

This is the modern day version, and funny to see most of the stunts are still going. Some were insane.

I was at the Floyd gig at Knebworth too.
I was at the Floyd gig at Knebworth. I taped it too. Still got it. They played the as then unreleased Have A Cigar in the middle of the also unreleased Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Roy Harper came on and sang it. It is the only time ever that a guest singer sang lead vocals live with Pink Floyd.

Nice one Bispham. Cheers. The show at Bloomfield Rd was by some Italian sounding family . The picture that appeared a couple of years ago showed a cyclist with no helmet on going through a ring of fire, with the Scratching Shed in the background!! I'm sure it was on the Gazette retro page . Wish I could find it. The name of the family might throw up something on a Google search 🏍 🔥

Stu, don’t remember that! Perhaps i was still in recovery position at Knebworth, think I had my brain sent home the day after maybe!😂

would be good to see it again indeed. I remember very little about it, other than sitting in the seats in the West watching. The same shows were held up at Workington and other venues.

I saw Roy Harper play a gig at Jenks Bar. Place was packed. He cut his finger on a guitar string and had to go off stage for a few minutes for a plaster. Very good gig .

John Cross sent this to me from the event! He had tried posting but the site wouldn't let him. "Ring Of Fire"
