Blackpool lads we’ve missed

A lot. I've heard we even lose youth to Fleetwood as their youth system is so much better than ours at the minute, which in reality is absolutely shambolic. Losing the occasional player to the likes of Manchester United is inevitable, but Fleetwood being a more attractive prospect to young lads on the Fylde is a disgrace.

We've already been recruiting youth players from other systems it seems. With Sadler's investment and vision and with Critchley at the helm, the tide will turn in our favour. Order shall be restored 😉

It's not a case of slipping through BFC's fingers I suspect. Lads are "courted" by bigger clubs at young ages now so it's likely few even have a discussion with Blackpool.

I suspect - and especially under the O's - if you were better than the others then you'd be unlikely to speak to BFC. I hope that changes.

George Eastham. Played for England. Not many born in the town have done that. Frank Swift was another.

Roger Kenyon. Went on to have a great career at Everton winning Lg title. Ironically he signed for Blackpool towards end of his career in 81/82 and was on the books for 8 months but never played a first team game according to the records. Strange how a player of his quality never featured, did he get a long term injury?

John Hurst was an exeptional talent ,our school, Bailey played his school in a cup final and got hammered 8-1 ,John score six from memory ,he played 400 games for Everton but there was an outcry that he never got picked for England.
I think Everton ,took three lads from Blackpool, Hurst,Kenyon and Eric Curwen .

By coincidence & no quite the same high profile careers....John Hills, Jamie Milligan & Gavin McCann, all Blackpool born & started youth careers at Everton.

George’s step dad is a Lytham lad and works in Blackpool as an IFA.
Had a decent season on loan last year at Morecambe by all accounts.
George was offered a contract by Wigan
Also know his step-dad, played Sunday league with him a few years back in fact. Apparently George was very highly thought of at Morecambe and pretty much won man of the match every game.

Know his family - paternal father ex-Rugby League pro with St Helens amongst others so from good sporting stock. Good luck to him, good to see him getting games under his belt rather than sitting on his @rse in U23 football. 👍

Remember John before the days of squad numbers always wore the number 10 shirt even when playing centre back. Eric Curwen also went to Everton. He played at Blackpool Rangers in the seventies and taught at Montgomery for many years.

Frank Swift. Supported the club allegedly
Swift played for Fleetwood before joining Man City so perhaps he didn't want to play for local rivals? 😁
An absolute legend in football and a credit to the Fylde Coast -deserves something a bit better than a plaque and I guess we could say the same about World Cup winner Alan Ball?

My memory is probably playing tricks with me but I think my dad was helping out at BJFF with one of the teams in George berry's era (probably George's age group, not sure) Helped him get signed by wolves. Around that time locally there was Loz Walsh that Liverpool we're interested in I believe, mark lawrenson, Royston Taylor (played for England schoolboys, went on to Blackburn I think) Michael Robinson as mentioned. Steve Thompson of course was at Warbeck a bit after that, I don't think he has been mentioned on here yet has he?. We've let a LOT of talent slip through our hands over the years.

Some of those mentioned in some posts were not actually born in Blackpool so do not qualify as sandgrownuns.
