Blackpool v Barnsley EFL Trophy Official Matchnight Thread 05.12.23

When Barnsley lost there goalscorer they did'nt have the same impetus, having said that Critchley effected change at half time.
Joseph made a difference also and Oakley Boothe needs more games he a very tidy player.

Even my Son said we are so bad. He singled out Dale, Beesley and Weir for not being able to pass the ball. Actually said Oakley Booth is the only good player. This is coming from a 9 year old! Normally he speaks bollocks but couldn't really argue.
Like father like son 😁

As for the attendance, based off this, a sold out M block...most of L and the rest, including hospitality I'd guess at a bit over 1.1k home fans. No idea how many from Barnsley.

Agree about Oakley boothe.. best game I've seen him play. Just want him to turn and go forward more... which he is very capable of. But good run out for all 👍

Another vote for Oakley Booth. Thought he was very good. Just needs to work out how he can influence the game more.
Some of the hate for him was clearly a bit ott.

Players need time and encouragement, he hasn't been great in some league games but has shown some good passages in Cup games.

Good to hear he's had a decent enough game here.

Glad to see we went through. Doesn’t really affect fixture congestion as we play mainly second string and gives players like O’Donnell a chance to show what they can do.
Hope we can keep the run going. it’s also perfect for players coming back from injury to get a run out.

It's brilliant for us tbh as keeping the back up keeper playing games that matter. I'm happy for him as he seems a good guy, it's hard for keepers who can rarely get another chance at times, so it's great he's the man for the cup games.

Alos we are giving some of the squad a run out, players coming back into it and playing back into form is ideal. It's also great to win games for confidence.

Critchley has also shows great management in that what happens in these games can be a springboard into the 1st team in the league.

Tense will have had a raging stork on all that first half. He would have been wide eyed, red faced, foaming at the mouth with excitement knowing he could tap away like a horny teenager with a full blown moan-a-thon.

If it picks up and we are anything less than shite, he will be gutted and more limp than a year old lettuce
Correct. The miserable fecker.....brings nothing but negativity to the table.

Like father like son then.... except you speak utter bollocks.

Plenty of money from gate receipts when we get to Wembley too 👍🏻

Looks like he can pick a decent pass . Quite smooth n glidey if you watch him
I wouldn't write him off quite yet . We'd barely have enough players for a 5 a side kick a bout if some of you had your way

Morgan showed tonight that he has ability. Up to now I don't think he's stood out - he's never really played badly but hasn't really done anything that's made me understand how he's going to improve us (and therefore why we signed him). Excellent tonight and playing like that every week would be a sure starter for us. He needs to find that level of performance every week.

The other player I'll single out is Joseph. I think he's a real gem and once he gets up to speed, he'll be one of the first names on the team sheet. I suspect he has the potential to be better than Yates, and will have a similar impact at the club that Yates had.
In fact I'd go as far as saying once Joseph and Gabriel are back fully match fit, it'll improve the team significantly. Both are quick, strong, and intelligent players.

A good night all round, we played very well in the second half.

Good 2nd half display. Morgan was excellent... defo headache for critch and starting 11 on sat. Dale ran his arse off. I still can't decide on bees... but he scored again. Lyons did great when he came on...gabriel great energy and again did good. for me only player I think doesn't look like a footballer is Thompson.

Joseph looks player too.

Edited to add... thommo did two balls in the game that were Peter kay esk. ... 'Ave it'
Bees was playing up front on his own first half, which was, a crap formation but he still won many headers but no one was there to profit from it.
When he was better supported he became a threat.

Agree on both
Carey and Morgan are both young but if we can keep them together they will be a real force.
Joseph looks a good bit of business

Credit to that team in the second half. Barnsley were woeful so hope that wasn't their first team. We didn't really have to do too much to win. Morgan changed it and Dale seemed to get more freedom. What a great header from Beesley. If we didn't play such a shit formation, I think he would score even more. Proper wing play that we rarely see as the wing backs are too busy wondering whether to attack or defend.
Reading between the lines, you don’t seem keen on the formation?

Change the you and your, figure of speech I guess, but I haven't written many off I don't think.

That is a rather silly comment, they are playing against a team of pro footballers who irrelevant of how they played were winning, i think its good to see us come back from being down to winning the game it hasn't happened that often. the formation is fine what you do need is the right players to play it but also have the capabilities to change when its needed which is down to the manager. with regards Beesley his main job and what all strikers are measured on is scoring goals and currently he is on a streak which by the way never lasts he might only get one chance but he needs to put it away, he will always score goals he has shown that.

But we haven't the right players to play it as proven all season. Dale and CJ are not wing backs.

We have, you obviously don't see what I see, who says they are the best players in the squad to do the job, it also depends on the opposition and how they set up. Don't be tunnel visioned look at the various permutation's to who may do those roles.

It doesn't depend on the opposition though as Critchley never changes the setup. It's all talk.
