The thing I can't fathom is that I had thought the Kop as we knew it at the North end of the ground was was preceded by a big, unroofed gravel mound. I hadn't realised that there was quite a sizeable roofed stand at that end, which was demolished to make way for the kop. Interesting picture, and probably around late twenties/ early-thirties?Where on earth did you pluck that date from, it's obviously well before the Kop was reconstructed and probably about a 100 years ago.

I think you might be taken aback by the amount of cigarette smoke. I know we all used to live with it but it's been a while now. It's a brilliant picture. Wish I could time travel to go and watch for a bit.
That's it, the Motor Stand. I was searching my memory and failing when I wanted to comment on the stand in the picture.Wasn't the pre Kop called The Motor Stand ? Think I read that somewhere before. That photo is probably from the 20s or 30s. Wasnt a game against them in early 60s the first ever game to be televised live. Friday night, as an experiment I think and cameras at the back of the Kop.
Also, the 1960 match was the one that was broadcast live on TV - well, the second half was. It was the first league match ever to be broadcast live and was considered a failure in television terms. The photo is definitely not 1960, and I would have been at that match, although I don’t remember it. Great days.
No need to time travel to the 1920’s, smoking ban only came into place in 2007 but does seem much longer ago!I think you might be taken aback by the amount of cigarette smoke. I know we all used to live with it but it's been a while now.
What ever happened to half way line flags?!Never seen this photo before, Kop looks smaller View attachment 16576
I think we'd be accused of witchcraft with our mobile phones and shell suits......Ace picture. It's a shame that there isn't many pictures before the 1940's about. Like Mac, I'd love to travel back and take in a game in that era. Pie and a pint at half time

Anyone know what the towers are either side of ‘the tower’?Never seen this photo before, Kop looks smaller View attachment 16576
Yep. One's a chimney, and so is the other one.Anyone know what the towers are either side of ‘the tower’?
Thank you, they do indeed look like chimneys. I’ve never seen pictures of chimneys like that in Blackpool, do we know anything about the buildings that were there?Yep. One's a chimney, and so is the other one.
