Blackpool v Burton Albion Official Matchnight Thread 16.03.21

Just had a scroll through the history of your posts on this forum and you've genuinely never said a positive word about this team, the management or even the bloody commentators for that matter. Just endless negative comments about every aspect of the club. Do you need a hug mate? I think I need one after reading through pages of your negative ramblings. If you can't take any positives from that second half and getting a point against a team that had won their previous 6 games that's an issue with you not this team.
I’ve got lockdown fatigue sorry 😀Although the poster earlier worrying about a premier league team poaching Jerry Yates cheered me up no end, great comedy.

So our unbeaten run goes on, whoop de ** do.
Those last 4 home games have severely damaged our promotion aspirations.
I would have much preferred to have won two and lost two, oh damn the unbeaten run has gone but hey two more points than if we'd drawn them all🤦‍♂️
Wins are imperative when it's 3 points for a victory.
I'm glad we recovered tonight but it's another two points dripping through our fingers.
I said it in February when a few were getting giddy, games in had HAVE to be won.
Its a Whoop de doo from me. About a third of the squad out injured including our 2 best defenders and our kingpin from up front. Every game is a tough one and yet we're still very much in the mix . Just miss out or just go up this season is fine by me

Critch got it wrong first half, but turned it around second half when he realised where he had gone wrong. I think we can kick on now we're proved we can play good, fast passing and high pressing game. Simms has had enough of a chance for me now, he's no madine, so we need to look at getting the ball on the ground and playing some great football like this evening

Pros
Unbeaten Run continues
Stopped Burton winning 7 in a row
Critch proves his agility again by studying game and counteracting/nullifying threat (apart from them maoooosive throw ins)
We are still in the hunt
Memphis and 62 years counting are still cunts

Cons
I stuck a tenner on us winning at half time at 6/1
I had a tenner on Burton at 14-5 and cashed in for £25.60 just before Pool equalised.

Sometimes it's worth learning a lesson. We learned a big one tonight.

I appreciate everybody looks at things differently, for me when you're not playing at your best and you still manage to go unbeaten it's a massive positive, inevitably we will find our flow again after having it disrupted by injuries. I always think in these sorts of situations the important thing is simply whether you follow a run of draws up with a win or a loss, and I strongly believe we can start to win after that second half performance.

I'm not getting giddy, but it's definitely possible for us to finish in the playoffs still and when we've done it before it's almost always been sneaking in the hard way. Everything depends on how we respond to this game, it's completely possible they will have another bad start on Saturday but it's equally possible they'll pick up where they left off. I believe it's going to be the latter.

Having given it some thought, and having looked at the results and table, there is still no-one pulling away in that 6th spot so we are still in the hunt. I think what encouraged me about the second half tonight is that we were convincing. We've picked up wins and draws in the last few weeks, but haven't really looked like we believed we could do it. The first half was horrible and for that we definitely didn't deserve to win, but we bossed that second half against the form team of the division. The players looked determined, the team looked like it had a purpose rather than plodding its way through the game. And most of all, we looked like we were trying to make something happen rather than hoping it does.

No it wasn't perfect, but it was better than any game we've played for weeks. That is the way we need to play consistently if we're to push for a play off spot.

We certainly don't want a repeat of that first half performance.

We need to be more than a 45 minute team, it happens far too often.

Don't know how many times I've said it but Kaikai's best position is in the middle with little or no defensive responsibilities. Critchley has to play him there or leave him out. No other option. Much much better second half and we recovered enough to deserve a point and looked the more likely to go on and win.
You and everyone else on the messageboard.

On the night Mitchell Ballard and Garbutt for me. The Manager needs to nail down a way of playing that will
suit Kai Kai. But if he does'nt put a shift in we can't carry him. It's got to the stage now Critchley should know what to do.
In the second half a weight was lifted from him and he played with freedom. That's what I want from Kaikai.

I don't know what we didn't learn. Are you going to tell us?
Apparently we learned a big lesson tonight ( your words) drawing 1-1.
We've also drawn the last 3 home games so, 1st tell us what that lesson was tonight and then please explain as to why we couldn't have learned it earlier.
I'm intrigued as to the lesson learned🤷‍♂️

No you're not intrigued, you're being sarcastic. In any case, I wrote about learning a lesson for the benefit of those intuitive enough to understand without needing it painted in primary colours.

Yes couldn't agree more. It always amazes me how different it can be, you couldn't have got two 45 min performances that were further apart from each other than what we saw tonight from us. Whatever was said at half time, can we say it before kick off instead please!

I have no complaints about the long throw, its incredibly difficult to defend against. Rory Delap kept Stoke in the prem for two seasons with his long throw.

Ballard 6 ? God knows how many they'd have scored from 21 long throws if he hadn't been there. His head must be thumping !
Ballard had the most touches of any Pool player and was a rock in the first half when we needed his defensive prowess in the air.
What he needs to learn however is how to distribute the ball. Too many times he just squares the ball to Hubby who doesn't deal with it particularly well. Obviously that's what Stewart's role has been but Ballard just needs to be a bit more confident on the ball.
No criticism, just advice.

We need to be an eight undefeated side. With a new owner and league manager. We’re fncking useless. What can we do😮

No you just tried to sound like a sky sports pundit coming out with a cliche.
I did wonder what the lesson was but you didn't really have one did you.
Let me guess at one, play better and you'll pick up your rewards?

⬆️ that was being sarcastic ⬆️

I've learned a lesson tonight.
You're not a mind reader

Without natural left footed and right footed wingers and at least one decent experienced league 1 target man finally Critchley has seen the problem, 4 4 2 with inverted wingers and no Madine doesn't really work!!
Better late than never and at last our deep lying midfielders and defenders had players to pass to, it's taken too long for him to realise but maybe it's not too late.

In the first half the 4 4 2 gave them hardly any decent forward passing options, he changed it at half time and then we did.

There isn't anything to learn from you dodgy dick. I can eat you for breakfast in terms of football knowledge, but you know that already. Place a couple of your pears where your other pair should be, it might make a man out of you.
Football knowledge are you having a laugh. Sad bastard

It's not particularly what was said, how we lined up was the key factor, 2 forwards without 2 natural wingers means at least 4 players are ineffective.

Oh! Weird...

Fixed - I'd lopped an l off of .html
Easily done. Congratulations in finding the lost l.
A good creative read. Oh if only our midfield had that decent, elusive, consistent spark. Few too many effs, Jeff's n c's for me.. But I realise you were building the scene as it were

Give me a break Wizzer. It's not as if you've got a mind to read.

Can't blame me for the industrial language of the workplace. Lads are lads etc. I am just the conduit ;-)

Course it's not...its more wavey 😀😂 Thanking you for that lil comedic gift
You're welcome, but when it is windy as Chizzy and Burgess kept mentioning, it is usually at its worst near the beach, and it isn't windy!
