Blackpool v Carlisle 1991

I was there for that in the South Kop. Proper fan me.

No bullshit 3-5-2 formation then. Just decent crosses into the box and Bamber scoring for fun. Yes football has evolved but it's not a different sport now.

What a strange camera angle.

I was in the south paddock that evening. Never saw Pool score more than 3 goals when I'd been at a game so this was bonkers for me

I am sure we had another big result the week before or after. Was it Lincoln maybe 5-0.
Not that season I don't think

We'd played Torquay the previous home game and won 1-0 and I think we lost at Peterborough or Darlington the Saturday before (we were dire away) It was my 1st game since we'd lost at home to Burnley in September (I think) and I'd had enough of Carr already at that point

I was in Q Block. Also remember the away game at Carlisle that season on a Sunday a few days before Xmas, we lost either 1-0 or 2-0. Pretty dismal performance and we were hovering around the lower reaches of Division 4 at that point. We'd also lost at Halifax 5-3 a month or so before, some turnaround under Billy Ayre with Dave Bamber banging them in from Xmas onwards .

Remember that game. 'We want six', was a regular shout out from someone in the scratching sheds. Finally his wish came true.

Also I remember my mate saying in the pub afterwards " Six pints, six goals, all I want now is a sh*g, and I would be in heaven!"

Same bloke used to also shout "this'll bring 'em in"

That season we won 14 home games in a row. We drew at home on Boxing Day then beat Lincoln 5-0 a few days later and won every other game including a 3-2 cracker against Stockport, Cardiff and Hereford 3-0 and the Play Off Semi against Scunthorpe.

I was in the West. I've never seen another game filmed from the closed side of the Kop.

Used to be a south paddock surger but for some unknown reason I was sat in block B of the west. Phenomenal home form those days,King Billy galvanised players and fans.

This brought back a few memories ....

Great memories, the whole ground was rocking and although usually in the scratching shed I managed to get stand tickets for a few of us including a colleague who was a Carlisle fan😢 We played well but their defense was awful

Loved those days. Home form under King Billy those 2 seasons was phenomenal in division 4.
We were dire away from home mind.
Not sure if the reason was down to pitch dimension ? Bloomfield Road always seemed a wider / longer pitch compared to others ? Allowing our wingers & full backs to bomb up & cross to Zico & co ?

Great footage, which prompted me to google that season. The crowds were criminally low. 2,000 core support sky-rocketing up to 5,000 for the Carlisle game, a fair few of whom will have come down from there. Also, only 2,500 at Rochdale for the supposed local derby. Puts today's attendances into perspective. Loved it, though.

Yes, poor support after a decade of decline.

This footage was shot by Carlisle’s video team from the home side of The Kop; we shot from the West Paddock (sadly, as the gantry wasn’t in place) back then.

My avatar pic was taken from the gantry vs Barnet when I was co-commentating in 1992.

King Billy…the video says it all really.

I take it you did the commentary on the old season videos then?

Had a few on VHS in the early to mid nineties.

Inverted wingers had not even been dreamed of back then. Was there some rule saying Carlisle players weren't allowed to head the ball that day? Remember it well.

If only we’d known then what we know now!
King Billy should have had a lifetime contract
Dave Bamber would’ve practiced penalties
Owen was a bullshitter!
