Blackpool v Charlton Official Matchday Thread 27.01.24

Why the Reactively reverting to “we should’ve gotten Evatt instead of Critch” immediately after a disappointing result is blaming Critch and throwing him under the bus.

Why the need to bring Evatt up? Negative, fingerpointing, BS.

“Try to engage your brain” you should heed your own advice, we’re still well in the hunt for Playoffs and just starting to play our best stuff, the world isn’t falling.
" Why the need to bring up Evatt" you ask? Because he's an ex player and all ex players are brilliant managers and any.who are still playing we should re-sign. Come on , it's obvious 🤣

Clearly you are missing my point even when I explained it to you. So it is pointless debating with someone who completely misrepresents or can`t grasp what I have said which was very simple .We missed the chance of getting a better manager who had strong connections with our club and we are now paying the price as subsequent results have clearly shown..Perhaps you haven`t noticed.

Marv could do nothing about the goal, but CJ s lack of defending ability will cost us time and time again. His ability going forward masks his faults in some games but not in all. Today he did not realise we wear tangerine.
When there is always such damning criticism of CJ after yet another calamitous display, can someone please explain to me how there can possibly be any justification whatsoever for naming him in the starting line-up for the following week's fixture? I'm sorry, but this is now becoming beyond a joke ...

Only ex players who had shown great promise elsewhere in the job like for example Evatt just in case you are unable to work that out for yourself,

Here to help.

And you missed the point of what I said, why even bring up that we could’ve gotten Evatt?

It was reactionary bullshit, which is what I was calling you out for you reactionary bullshitter.

OK, I've calmed down a bit now. Not sharp enough in the finishing and allowed them back into it. On the player front I wasn't keen on Norburn's performance. For most of the game we harried and pressed Charlton. Norburn slowed things down and too often played the sideways ball. The new lad on the left played OK, without pulling up ant trees and Dembele was everywhere. Oh well. We need to make up for it against Stevenage.

He’s utterly crap, has been since forever. Has one or two good games and people fawn over him. No technical ability, can’t head, weak in a challenge, doesn’t want the ball. Such a passenger, should be hooked at half time in a game like today. To top it all off, I would put some of the blame for the goal at his door with some shocking defending. Gabriel is far and away a better a player

I agree about Norburn, we really need a replacement for Dougall before the window closes to provide some competition.

No sir judging by your ignorant response any moronic tendencies are clearly yours. I am talking about the comparative achievements of Critchley and Evatt. At the time we appointed Critchley we refused to even interview Evatt which I said seemed crazy at the time .With the benefit of hindsight even crazier now.

Try to engage your brain if that`s possible before coming on here.
Critch has a better managerial record than Ian Evatt so why was it crazy to appoint him instead ?

Well I think some on here have been to a different game to the one I witnessed…..first half in complete control with some great moments and Charlton clearly riding their luck and fighting for their lives. 2nd half, again in control and we score and then we batter them for the next 15/ 20 mins and should have increased the lead. During that period, Dembele and Joseph had them in their pockets.
Then…OMG …..we concede the obligatory stupid goal and the rest of the game I can only liken to sunday league football.
Husband did not make one successful cross in the whole game. Rhodes was struggling (even before his injury) and his lack of pace is a bit of an issue. Seems a different players since his new loan deal. Ekpiteta was a liability and so uncomfortable in possession ( yes he made some good blocks but that’s his job). Norburn went miss ing. CJ did not make one forward run all game.
On a positive note, Joseph continued his good run of form.
In the end we could easily have lost the game. In my opinion, & I know not shared, but some of these players are not good enough for us to get anywhere the play off’s this season.

Unfortunately today Wasn’t our day ! Decent enough performance, and on another day we would have run out as 4-0 winners. Shit happens in this wonderful game of ours , but we move on .

I'm not in this for a slanging match 88 but I do like Hamilton. And yes, I recognise his limitations.

I thought Coulson looked very tidy today. Got up the pitch well, looked for the ball, did something with it and defended well. A massive step up from Thompson. He was my man of the match before he went off
First time I've had a chance to see him play and it was nice to see a bit of balance and movement on that side of the pitch. Gives Jim Husband and the midfield an option to pass into space behind the full back or to go on the overlap around him. A bit more in line with how a wing back shape is supposed to work with width. Forwards not backwards.

Generally we were weak as piss after their goal and had to endure schoolboy finishing. A real shame as that was a heck of a good performance and no individual should be singled out. They were all very good.

But not good enough. It's a simple game the purpose of which is to score goals. If you don't do that then performance is irrelevant at this stage of the season.

Yes, very frustrating, we don’t seem to do draws this season. However, the final play off place is within our reach. Players and fans can’t afford to give up at this stage.

Sucked the wind out of us and couldn’t recover. Apart from that, plenty of positives but poor finishing and luck for them means points dropped.

Really not what to do with Marv after the last 2 seasons.

Poor finishing but fine lines between success and failure.
Hit the woodwork twice and 2 or 3 cleared off the line. Another day and a comfortable 3-1 win

2 points dropped & sums the season up really.
Could pick the bones off that but c b a

Now need a minimum of over 1.7 points a game to be in with a sniff of the play offs

Very lenient referee - Charlton number 4, commits at least 5 bookable fouls before he got booked.

Fcuks sake - just back from the races and everyone is at everyone's throats. Gimme a one-line synopsis of the shit show that must've ensued - or just some bullet points .... pls.

My, my, my.
Our comments are as inconsistent as the club's performances
"Good run of home results; we're making the playoffs
Crap away form; we're going nowhere
Win at Bristol and we're on track again
Draw today and we're floundering
Ollie the signing that will give us a chance of promotion
Norburn not as good as Virtue
Dougall not worth a place in the starting lineup
Kenny going to be a loss" etc, etc.

We should accept that we're an average side, competing against similar teams in a poor league. Barnsley and Oxford fans will be annoyed this evening, whilst Stevenage, who we beat convincingly at home, are on a roll.
Derby and Peterboro are the best two sides I've seen this season and they might only reach the playoffs

Sometimes you play well and fully deserve to win but don't get what you deserve.
It's why you get results like Ipswich losing at home to Maidstone. It happens.
Most games that we haven't won this season have been because we've been poor but today that just wasn't the case. We just need to forget about it and move on quickly. We're playing quite well, four games unbeaten, I think we are good enough to get a top six spot. I'd be more concerned if we just lost to Exeter at home or Bristol Rovers away, two sides we've beaten comprehensively recently, but Barnsley and Oxford couldn't.

Admittedly, I'd be happier if we bring in a replacement for Dougall. But we're looking in decent shape for a strong finish imo.

Oh give it a rest will you. If it was Evatt given the job and he performed poorly then you'd be capitain hindsight again and suggest it should have been Dobbie. Everyone is always an expert after the fact.

How are we paying the price when the oportunity to sign Evatt was pre-Critchley's first tenure? Unless you are suggesting we could have got him from Bolton before re-appointing Critch, then you're deluded.

Critch has got a club promoted from L1 to the Championship before and kept a team in the Championship. Evatt hasn't.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong. Weak as piss not being able to finish that game off. The general performance though for the first 70 minutes was very good.

I question the Kenny is a hero thing. Top players for us of course, but a bit Ray Wilkins ... safe, sideways, and non-threatening - ok ... occasionally.
Surely Morgan, Norburn, and Virtue are just as effective as Kenny??

I don't recognise that description of KD. I remember him turning to face forward and get things moving.

Yeah its just that with him leaving its an opportunity to find someone with a bit more quality in midfield.

Great game for pool today. Played very well. Ball just didn’t want to go in the net for us today 2 off the post 1 or 2 off the crossbar. Few off the goal line. Very unlucky for the own goal
Another day we’d have won 3/4 to nil.
We move onto Stevenage in the league and we’re bringing three points home UTMP 🧡🤍🧡🤍🧡🤍🧡🤍

It was really poor how with one fortunate goal against, we've gone to pieces after being so dominant and should have been miles ahead.

We were just far too wasteful, stopped playing football and went into panic mode etc. Too many passengers as well.

It's disappointing as we've got the potential to be far better, but a good side finishes the chances and then it doesn't matter if a flukey goal goes in against.

It was only 1-1 and there was loads of time left to win it, but we didn't have the mentality or belief, nor quality.

Big chance blown to really put some pressure on and build momentum.

Could have, if we're not careful that will be the story of the season.

It's our own fault we've left it needing big runs of wins to catch anyone so when we do slip up, it's damaging.

Thought Ollie ‘backpass’ Norburn was poor today. Takes an age on the ball then plays an obvious pass to the nearest player. I think he has been very disappointing overall this season.
Agree, that was a huge signing when he came to us but bar a few moments, he hasn't massively impressed for me.

Dougall was running games in comparison.

What happened to us when we conceded. Got to have a stronger mentality than that. Charlton were the only ones looking likely to score. I left on 84 minutes and just didn't want to see them scoring. Thankfully in the end we got a point. So sad after a great performance for the first 60.
Wha kind of fan leaves a "tense" game on 84mins with the score at 1-1? I'd hazard a guess that you were nowhere near Bloomfield Rd today and probably never have been .

Time to bin Marv, he is a constant liability.

Stop being so positive 😅😅

Their guy Jones, who came on at half time and then lost the ball for our goal, apparently played 10 games for us in 2015. Got to admit, I don't remember him

Don't be a drip. Have a look earlier in the thread. I posted at picture at 2.30.

Love Dembele, by far our most exciting player but always seems to fade after 70 mins, not sure if it’s fitness or the ball going over his head by that point

How we never won that ill never know although we could easily have lost it at the end

I thought would have been a gabs for cj but no... how his 2nd love child stayed on all game is beyond me. The simple things he puts us in trouble... so so frustrating..grrr
Agree with most of that.
In 60 years watching Pool rarely have I seen so many clear chances missed. I thought our pressing up front was excellent in 2nd half today for 25 minutes but their raggy goal knocked the stuffing out of us.
I'm a CJ fan (most of the time!) but he was poor today.
Don't know who you mean by "2nd love child" but if it's Marv I thought he did well today, barring one dodgy moment. He made a game saving tackle/block near the end too.
Up the Pool
