Blackpool v Cheltenham Official Matchnight Thread 25.10.23

Absolutely not. Bowler is a far superior passer than CJ. Pace isn’t much in it. Bowler is rapid.

Bowler is a thousand times the player CJ will ever be. It’s not a conversation.

It’s an opinion. Bowler is the better player but was greedy and his defensive capabilities were nil so he wouldn’t work in this formation as well as CJ. However, would I want Josh in my team, of course I would, he was brilliant on his day it’s a shame he was used so badly by the muppets in charge. I have criticised Critchley but he is a far better tactician than Appleton and McCarthy by a country mile and if we still had him I’m sure he would have got Josh defending when he needed to, imagine him as one wing back and CJ the other this season.

Good win in the end although we did struggle in midfield 2nd half, seemed to run out of steam apart from Dougall.

Hopefully Norbury and Husband back in the side for Saturday, experience will be needed.

Think we invited pressure after we took dembele off as he was the outlet.
Nope- they changed personnel and formation. Their number 14 was just picking the ball easily and had all the time in the world to dictate play. Dembele should have been picking him up but went missing, hopefully due to fatigue rather than laziness, so Critch had to take him off.

I don't want either as wing backs. CJ isn't very good at defensive duties anyway.

I don't actually like this formation personally.

Just watched the highlights and their goals were down to poor defending I know the first one looked offside but no way he should be able to score from that angle and their second looked like a goalie error as well which is a shame as he’s usually so reliable. Big game Saturday and we need to be tighter at the back but still be as good in attack UTMP

Surely Grimshaw should have prevented that second goal so close to his own post. Down to him that one but thankfully it didn’t cost us.
He should have done better but so should Connolly, if he does his job and attacks the ball or blocks the man instead of being all over the place and doing nothing, then Grimshaw might not have a save to make.

Not Critchley's fault. He has to use his squad but sadly the depth in quality isn't great. That's expected at League One level though.
Disagree, our squad must be one of the strongest in League 1. Went to watch Cambridge play Shrewsbury last week and the quality was dreadful. Yet Cambridge drew 0-0 last night with Portsmouth and beat Oxford convincingly.
